Thy Geekdom Come
I'm still seeing www.oncecatholic.org on there. dUSt, while the financial gain from this is significant, I think having these ads could lower your fidelity ratings with Catholic Culture...I don't think it's worth it. Birgitta Noel
I'd have to second Micah. I just don't think it's worth it. And it seems to cheapen the site somehow. No pun intended.

Ummm, these are quite odd. jezic
I think that while you have good intentions, this thread has went a little bit over board at the moment. Dust can't possibly block everything that is contrary to teaching and i think he mentioned already that he can only block 200 sites. We should probably focus on the worst ones and we might have to put up with some of the others. I don't really like that idea but it might have to be. Cow of Shame
I think that while you have good intentions, this thread has went a little bit over board at the moment.
Heh. I was thinking the same thing. I just don't think there are that many strictly Catholic ads out there. If something's actually OFFENSIVE, that's one thing. Annoying, stupid, or a topic you don't agree on will result in about 3 ads available for you guys to click on.
dUSt
dUSt, how much $$$$ do you make per click?
I don't know. Phatmass made $36 yesterday and $48 today. I'm not allowed to tell anyone to click the ads because it will violate the terms of service with Google. I just found this out this morning. This doesn't mean you're not allowed to, obviously, I can't just tell you to. Yahoo has a similar program and I may test that out-- we can see which one is better. I agree that it cheapens the site. I intentionally left the ads off the main site--they only appear in the phorum. The sad reality is that phatmass uses so much bandwidth and generates so much traffic, I can't afford to pay the bills anymore. It's either keep the ads or keep begging for donations, which I have never been comfortable with. We've generated more revenue with two days of ads than we do for an entire month of donations. That's crazy--not crazy that people don't donate that much, but crazy that Google actually pays that much. I'll continue to add domains to the "banned" list, and I'm optimistic we'll be able to keep the ads to simply "annoying" as opposed to "offensive". Laudate_Dominum
For some reason I really like clicking random ads. A lot of them are actually pretty interesting. I never knew there was a site devoted to Catholic flute music.

Yeah. You're telling me. If we average just half of that every day, you'll be seeing some amazing new stuff coming from phatmass, for the glory of the Church. I have ideas. Lots.
