Thy Geekdom Come Posted January 21, 2006 Posted January 21, 2006 He apparently doesn't like the game psychiatrist.

homeschoolmom Posted January 21, 2006 Posted January 21, 2006 But we'd have to live in Steubenville... Nothing against Steubenville... but if you didn't know, it's all the way over in Ohio...

Laudate_Dominum Posted January 21, 2006 Posted January 21, 2006 Random comment: I was just browsing through this rather odd anti-Catholic website and I noticed a page where they were ripping on protestants who they feel are too friendly toward Catholics. Anyway, Dr. James Dobson was one of them and among the many absurd claims about this man was this: "Dr. Dobson's doctorate is from the Catholic Franciscan University of Stuebenville, Ohio." For one thing, FUS doesn't have any doctoral programs so this is obviously false, but does anyone know if there might be a grain of truth to this? Did Dobson ever attend FUS? I highly doubt it, but then again, you never know.
Thy Geekdom Come Posted January 21, 2006 Author Posted January 21, 2006 He may have an honorary doctorate from here...FUS does give those out...just not real ones. :
dustthouart Posted January 21, 2006 Posted January 21, 2006 Re: L_D Dr. Dobson's earned degree is from the University of Southern California, but he does indeed have an honorary doctorate from Steubenville. Laudate_Dominum Posted January 21, 2006 Posted January 21, 2006 They should specify that instead of making it sound like Dr. Dobson was a Steubie-U kid.

I would have assumed that only schools that actually have doctoral programs could meaningfully give an honorary doctorate in their field(s) of note; otherwise its all the more meaningless. And I also assumed that only schools noted for their academics would take it upon themselves to honour persons in this way.. oh well.
Thy Geekdom Come Posted January 22, 2006 Author Posted January 22, 2006
how do you play psychiatrist?
You get a circle of people and one of them goes out of the room. Then everyone else decides that they have a common problem and what it is (the first round when we play with someone new is usually that each person is the member of the opposite sex nearest on their right). Then the other person, the "psychiatrist" comes back in and tries to guess what their problem is by asking questions. So, for instance, if Jennie were the nearest girl on my right, and I was asked what color shirt I was wearing, I'd say, "pink." Then if they asked my gender, "girl," and so on...after a while, they realize that I'm describing Jennie, so they formulate the theory that everyone is Jennie. Wrong. So then they ask other people...a girl describes basically being me...so then maybe the theory is that guys are Jennie and girls are me...closer, but not right. It goes on until they get it. Some recommended problems: Everyone is a member of the opposite sex nearest on their right/left (easy). Everyone answers with a subsequent letter of the alphabet (easy). Everyone answers while impersonating an animal (easy). Everyone pretends to be some common object in the room (easy). Answer every question with a question (moderate). Everyone pretends to be the last person to answer a question (hard, especially since the first time you're asked a question in a row, you're someone else...and the other times, you're yourself..."Are you a girl?" "Yes." "Are you still a girl?" "No."). Everyone with their legs crossed is the psychiatrist, everyone with them uncrossed is him/herself (hard). Answer every question starting with the first letter of the question/your name/etc. (hard). The people with the problem can make it more or less obvious as they see fit in order to help out the psychiatrist.
