rkwright Posted January 23, 2006 Posted January 23, 2006 (edited) I saw Cam mention this earlier in the Q\A board. Some questions regarding as this may be something I am interested in participating in. General Requirements? Does it mean a commitment to Holy Orders? Does it carry anything like rules like celibacy, poverty, ect? How to get going on it (I assume just talk to my priest or bishop)? Edited January 23, 2006 by rkwright

Unless you live in a diocese in which the bishop has a program set up for laymen to be installed as acolytes, you will need to study to become a priest. Right now, the only diocese I know of that has such a program (it is a fledgling one at that) is the Diocese of Baker, Oregon. Bishop Vasa is the Ordinary. My circumstances were very unique and most certainly not the norm. The general requirements are that normally one must be studying toward ordination. It does not carry any rules other than obedience. And as far as getting going on it, I would say that for the most part, unless you are going to seminary, you can't. However, you can inquire if your diocese has a progam for acolytes.....it is doubtful though.
