OLAM Dad Posted January 23, 2006 Posted January 23, 2006 (edited) If you're a sports fan you probably know already that Kobe scored 81 points last night. Amazing. If you haven't see the details yet, click here. Here's something that I bet you don't know about Kobe. Whenever the Lakers are in town on a Sunday he attends the same Mass that I attend, a Tridentine Mass at 8 o'clock in the morning. Edited January 23, 2006 by OLAM Dad

Lots of religiously indifferent kids look up to Kobe. It is a potential springboard... Edited January 23, 2006 by Myles
OLAM Dad Posted January 23, 2006 Author Posted January 23, 2006
No way.
Way. I've seem him there on at least three different occasions over the past couple of years. The first time I saw him, me and another guy looked at each other with the same 'that's not who I think it is' look on our faces, but it was. He sort of stands out in the crowd if you know I mean. He is always there with one other person who must be a body guard, she (yes, a she) always looks very serious and walks in front of him as he leaves and there is always a car waiting out front when he leaves. Yes, he goes to Communion (but she doesn't).
Era Might Posted January 23, 2006 Posted January 23, 2006 Did you see Kobe and Shaq reconciled, after Shaq talked to, of all people, Celtics great Bill Russell.
dUSt Posted January 23, 2006 Posted January 23, 2006 Well, he did get married in a Catholic Church, and I think he went to Catholic highschool, right? Hmmm... That's pretty cool.

To be honest with you I don't know whether he is a 'Tridentinist' or not. My church is in downtown Houston so it is likely that the team hotel is nearby. But we do have Paulist masses at 9:30 and at 11, the latter being a Latin NO Mass. So he does have an opportunity to attend other Masses if he wanted. I don't think players show up for games until 4 or 5 so he's not going at 8 because that's the only one he has time to attend. I found these factoids on about.com. Kobe Bryant and Vanessa Laine were married on April 18, 2001 in Dana Point, California at St. Edward Roman Catholic Church. Kobe speaks Italian and Spanish fluently. Edited January 23, 2006 by OLAM Dad
Ash Wednesday Posted January 23, 2006 Posted January 23, 2006 Holy moley. I didn't know he was Catholic -- and even attends a tridentine mass!
