God made the body, so it is good. I think that if we all e-mailed the Pope about this, he'd probably tell us that it's our responsibility as laypeople to stand up for what the Church teaches in public life. Obviously these colleges aren't listening to the Vatican. We need to make them listen to us. I've emailed all the colleges.
EcceNovaFacioOmni Posted January 27, 2006 Posted January 27, 2006 The VM's days at Notre Dame are numbered according to recent reports.

Iacobus Posted January 28, 2006 Posted January 28, 2006
But then when the girl is 16, she is seduced by an older lesbian women and she "finds herself," even though it's technically statuatory rape according to the law. But in the play it's portrayed as a wonderful thing, not a sinful + illegal thing.
Sinful, yes. Illegal, no. For some wonderful reason, women cannot be tried for rape or statuatory rape. They want and deserve equal rights and then I think they should be treated the same under the law and that the law should respect that and allow for that action to be illegal. VM isn't coming to Grinnell anytime soon that I am aware of but we did do a form of it that was based on monolouges submitted by students. I haven't seen it so I am not able to comment on if it should or should not be performed at a Catholic college *my gut feeling say most likely no* As a side note, my cousin was in it and my grandma (82) went to see it. Her comments? "They said bad words in it. But I didn't really understand it. It was confusing."
Cow of Shame Posted January 28, 2006 Posted January 28, 2006 (edited)
Illegal, no. For some wonderful reason, women cannot be tried for rape or statuatory rape.
I don't think this is accurate. I'm pretty sure women can be charged with statutory rape if she has sex with any minor. Here's some stuff I found about it: (AOC= age of consent) --"Technically, anybody with knowledge of a sexual relationship between a person who is over the AOC and a person who is under the AOC can ask that charges be laid. " --"Some places define any sexual contact between a person who is over the AOC and a person who is under the AOC as illegal, this includes things like kissing and making out. Other places only consider the law to have been broken if the parties engage in intercourse. It is important to know that some places outlaw specific sex acts regardless of age, and that if you engage in these acts AND are not at the AOC, two seperate areas of law have been broken." --"The laws still apply even if you have a child together or become pregnant as a result of the union." --"If you are an emancipated minor the AOC laws do not apply to you. An emancipated minor is a minor who has been legally deemed an adult, with all the responsibilities and rights of an adult. This is not the same as a "ward of the state" or an orphan; not having parents is not enough to qualify you as an emancipated minor. Also, if you are a minor who supports themselves, you are not necessarily an emancipated minor. An emancipated minor has been given the legal status of an adult by a court of competent jurisdiction." --"In the United States, it is a crime in and of itself to cross state lines with the intention of having sex with a person who you would not legally be able to have sex with in your home state." Sarah_JC Posted January 29, 2006 Posted January 29, 2006 I was not aware what this play was about... I thank you for saving my 2 to 3 hours of my life.
avemaria40 Posted January 29, 2006 Posted January 29, 2006 Some of those colleges listed are colleges I'm looking at Georgetown, Fordham, Holy Cross
photosynthesis Posted January 29, 2006 Posted January 29, 2006 well, Fordham has a GREAT radio station... don't know about anything else there though
Colleen Posted January 29, 2006 Posted January 29, 2006
Catholics can't say vagina? I did not know that
Well, there are younger kids who read this board. I don't think there's anything wrong with Ironmonk deciding to censor his post.
