Guest anonymous Posted January 31, 2006 Posted January 31, 2006 My problem is somewhat difficult to explain, but I have truly been stressing over this, so I'll do my best. Sometimes, I think / do things I know I'm not supposed to do, simply because I know I'm not supposed to do them. When this happens, it's not the will of my heart or mind, it's just something that unfortunately happens. This happened last week, when I was reading about the unforgiveable sin - blasphemy of the Holy Spirit. Now, as far as this has gotten before I've been able to stop myself is negative, somewhat blasphemous thoughts in my head about the Holy Spirit, and most of these thoughts come from ignorance of who the Holy Spirit really is and what it does for me. I know in my heart I would never wish to hurt the Lord so much as to never be forgiven, and I most certainly don't wish to be damned for all eternity (who would?!), so my question is, have I truly commited the unforgiveable sin here? Please, help - as you can imagine, this has been rather stressful for me! Thank you and God bless you!
cappie Posted January 31, 2006 Posted January 31, 2006 My answer would be no. You do not consent to these thoughts, you have no desire to offend God. Just pray that these temptations will go away. Remember St Peter Stand up to the devil and he will run away from you 1Pet 5:8-11
cappie Posted February 1, 2006 Posted February 1, 2006 I should add blasphemy is not the same as disrespect. To speak with some disrespect about God to the extent it is "spur of the moment"is a venial sin. What I would call a lapse of judgement .
