[quote name='Iacobus' date='Feb 1 2006, 06:08 PM']Do some waterborne rescuse attempts (entering/leaving canoes in the water and turning them over, it is a two canoe excerise, I don't know the proper name), NEVER bridge a canoe (i.e. have it loaded or be in it when it is partly on land and partly on water), NEVER let the canoe rest in a way that does not have all of the keel or three points of contact (bow, stern, and a side) on the ground. Know how to do a on the water place switch. Draws and ply's are vital, know them like the back of your hand.
NOOO!!! There are no oars with canoes!!! You ONLY have paddles.

That would be canoe over canoe rescue. Also it's good to practice having two people get into a single canoe in deep water. And in rapids, head for the "V"s in the river, those are the deepest parts, so you won't get stuck.

did you see that Boat Safety video too, the one with the pirate teaching the little kids about "the keys to boat safety"? It was so funny! I had to watch it back when i was a camp counselor.
