GonnaBeAPriest Posted February 8, 2006 Share Posted February 8, 2006 While I'm reading several terrific books now, on Catholicism, discernment, spirituality, etc., I'm wondering if anyone has a suggestion for a good magazine/periodical to which I should subscribe? It would be great it if were discernment based (I'm discerning for the diocesan priesthood), but a general Catholic magazine would be nice as well. Really, there isnt any good magazines out there for people discerning. Vision is released once a year, but of course you have to learn to find the good stuff, and fiddler out the bad. I would also recommend [url="http://www.osv.com/"]Our Sunday Visitor[/url]. They have a lot of good articles, and i think have touched upon vocations, although rarely. The articles I read did not appear as such, but thank you for your opinion. Pardoning my ignorance, would you please explain what "Morostheos says." I am not a strong advocate of both of the magazines the_rev recommended staying away from, but sometimes it helps to know what the "other side" is thinking. Also, in order to keep a balance it might be good to have a variation of a few things. On the "other side" there are a few that, despite your desire to shy away from them, are good to know about since a lot of people are reading them. Nathan Posted February 10, 2006 Share Posted February 10, 2006 I would enthusiastically recommend the Canadian magazine CATHOLIC INSIGHT. It is by far the most orthodox -- and entertaining, in an angry conservative kind of way -- of the Catholic publications I know of. The only caveat is that if you're not Canadian, you may not appreciate some of the material -- it often deals with Canadian political matters (usually regarding pro-life/pro-family issues). It's the magazine of Communion and Liberation, but everything in it is good for any Catholic to read, whether you're in the movement or not.
