Era Might Posted February 12, 2006 Posted February 12, 2006 More wisdom from the Catholic lady in Hollywood Barbara Nicolosi:
just read a ludicrous statement by some Christian pastor, calling for all Christians to go to see The Da Vinci Code when it opens. His statement was something to the effect of "Every Christian needs to see this film!" I beg to differ. No. We don't need to see this film. We all know what is in it. (Especially me, as I have read the screenplay.) It is a movie which begins from the point that Jesus was a fraud. He was not only not Divine, he was less than a man. And His Church is a sham association of meglomaniacal conspirators whose unifying principles are in the oppression of women. I have, thus far, been campaigning for a kind of non-campaign as regards The Da Vinci Code. I was thinking that we should all just agree to ignore it, and put our efforts into praying for the people who hate Jesus and us, His disciples, so much that they would make this film. I was reluctant to throw any free p.r. at the project by speaking about it publically, as that is all that the studio wants here. The people promoting the movie want - with every fiber of their obscenely well-compensated beings - that we make this film an event. The almost irresistible hook for us all is that we supposedly need to see The Da Vinci Code, so that we can then tell all the other people what is wrong with it. All these Christians are being hooked in to write and speak about the film in the name of "dialogue." "How could you criticize something that you haven't seen?" And, "Everybody is going to be talking about this film! We won't be able to talk back if we haven't seen it." Folks, there is no dialogue here. The dialogue which might have happened involved Sony and Imagen making changes in the story, that would have reflected some kind of fidelity to history or fairness. They didn't make those changes. Basically because they wanted to bash Christians. (Quick, someone assure me that Time and Newsweek and the NY Times, et al. will NOT be running reviews or ads for The Da Vinci Code because it is such an offensive caricature of the central figure of a major world religion!) Secondly, I don't agree that "everybody" is going to see this film. I found the script somewhere between idiotic and way too cute. I didn't find it half as clever as National Treasure....and that wasn't exactly a work of cinematic genius. As 80% of America is Christian, if they don't get us in, the movie basically tanks. And most of us probably weren't going to be going -- until we were told "Every Christian must!!!" All in the name of "dialogue." zunshynn Posted February 12, 2006 Posted February 12, 2006 not interested. I mean I know its fiction, but it looks like lame fiction to me.

Era Might Posted February 13, 2006 Posted February 13, 2006 I would hope so. It calumniates his Lord.

Fixxxer Posted February 13, 2006 Posted February 13, 2006 all about geometry :-P human proportions and stuff. stuff that leonardo divinci did
Didacus Posted February 13, 2006 Posted February 13, 2006 see the movie? no and that's all I have to say about that.... Back to you Bob...
morostheos Posted February 13, 2006 Posted February 13, 2006 I'll probably see it once it's out on dvd, but I don't really like the idea of giving them my money to go see it in the theatres. At least if i rent it that's supporting the movie a lot less. I'd be okay if at the beginning of the movie there was a disclaimer that it was fiction to mitigate the effects of that silly FACT page in the book.
musturde Posted February 13, 2006 Posted February 13, 2006 actually i don't think any priest at my school's against the movie. Against the anti-Catholic message but not against the movie in itself. The movie is a good thing in this, the people (especially priests) too lazy to read the book can see the movie and answer some of the questions about it from their knowledge of it. There are people who have read it and there will only be more people who watch it when it comes out. Better to know about it when asked then to reply "Oh, i'm not watching that movie because my Church is against it". Does anyone understand how horrible that'd sound to a person who believes what is depicted of the Church in that book? We're already depicted by society as closed-minded drones who only read what the Church tells us to and censors every little "secret" about it.

musturde Posted February 14, 2006 Posted February 14, 2006

Yes but it shows a little more credibility when you actually read what you're opponent is attacking you with. That proves even more that you're just reading what your Church prescribes. I'll refer back to what I said earlier, if he gets famous enough, people will disregard what he says as fiction because we'll have (if we actually put together effort) blotted out the misconceptions by then. If people learn more because of us, isn't that a better thing. In the end, it should end up that the fiction is known as fiction and the fact is known as fact. The more we resist it, the more powerful his source becomes over ours. I suggest we don't stir controversy and just watch it like any fictional movie (with the intention of telling your the MANY of your friends who have watched it the truth behind the Church). The more we act like the Church is afraid of this book, the more credibility we give it.
Era Might Posted February 14, 2006 Posted February 14, 2006
The more we act like the Church is afraid of this book, the more credibility we give it.
Nobody's afraid. There have been numerous books written debunking the bigotry spewed by Dan Brown. Amy Welborn wrote one called "De-Coding DaVinci" and Carl Olsen/Sandra Miesel co-authored "The DaVinci Hoax". This is not about engaging the error, but about standing against this trash. While we're sitting in the theatre, stuffing ourselves with popcorn and enjoying the "suspense", these people are blaspheming our God and his Church. Hollywood knows only one law: money. If all Christians turned the cold shoulder to this movie, it would tank. Now that would be a great message to send to the cultural elites.
Fixxxer Posted February 14, 2006 Posted February 14, 2006 (edited) how bout instead of complaining about the movie go there and spread the truth eh? and it wouldnt tank, there are tons of non christians and christians who dont practice that would see it.. and christians who do practice and will like me Edited February 14, 2006 by Fixxxer

Should Jews keep quiet if a blatantly anti-Semitic movie is released, and just happily spread the good news that Jews are nice people not trying to take over the world? No. They should demand that this trash not be tolerated. Anti-Catholicism cannot be tolerated.
Fixxxer Posted February 14, 2006 Posted February 14, 2006 well thats pretty much already happened with the jews, passion of the christ? while we believe its true still hurt many jews

It's way too popular to be protested. Remember what happened to the Jews during the Passion of the Christ. Did any of their protesting help? No, people thanked them for it lol.

That we should just allow people in Hollywood to blaspheme us, because they have a bankroll and Tom Hanks? Fictional anti-Catholicism? His blasphemies are not at all fictional, and he says so himself. He intends this as historical fiction, that is, fiction based on reality.

He didn't say Yahweh was married to Mary Magdalene, and the Jews are involved in a big world-wide conspiracy. He didn't try to push some divine feminism on Judaism. TPOTC is not at all analogous to The DaVinci Code, whether some Jews were offended by it or not.
