This is not a coincidence, either.

There's no doubt that there are holy men and women outside the visible boundaries of the Catholic Church (and even moreso than in Protestantism, the Eastern Orthodox have a rich tradition of Saints). But only the Catholic Church enjoys the Saints who stand out in amazing splendor. John Paul, Mother Teresa, Thomas Aquinas, John of the Cross, Terese of Lisieux. Why does Catholicism have so many outstanding personages in her history? Because she is set apart as Christ's true Church. She is a city set on a hill, and Christ manifests his glory through her, most perfectly in the Saints. This visiblity of the Catholic Church is of divine providence. God loves all those holy Protestant men and women you mentioned. But he did not glorify them in the same way he does Catholic Saints, because Catholic Saints point to something greater than themselves: his mystical Bride.

actually it might be because there are way more catholics than protestants, more books in publication, and cnn always seems to be focusing on catholics. Look at the priest sex scandal. The southern baptist have been having that problem for a long time. Yet we never hear about it.

I like your answer, it sounds nice. But in saturational media it isnt valid.

Id like to append my list and put mark noll and Moltman on there also..hehe

btw, brother..

Im not saying protestants>>>>>>catholics. I am responding to the challenge of a protestant who can be in the same class as the list mentioned above. For the sake of bein ecumenical I believe we must see the true value in protestant minds. Otherwise we battled the battled of degrading them to arrogant children. As someone trained in protestant biblical and theological studies (*my story has been told already, no need to repeat my rep on that side) I can attest to the value found.

I don't mean to hijack the thread, but football fans will appreciate it...

What do the Indianapolis Colts and Billy Graham have in common?

Both of them can make 70,000 people stand up and shout, "Jesus Christ!" :lol_roll:

Speaking of Billy Graham

Billy Graham was returning home after a speaking engagement. When his plane arrived at the airport, there was a long black limousine to transport him.

Just as he was about to get in the back of the limo, he stopped. He whispered to the driver who was holding the door open for him. "You know" he said, "I am 87 years old and I have never driven a limousine. Would you mind if I drove it for a while?"

The driver said, "No problem. Have at it."

Billy got into the driver's seat and they headed out to the interstate.

Lurking behind an exit ramp a short distance from the airport, sat a rookie State Trooper operating his first speed trap.

The long black limo went by him doing 70 in a 55 mph zone. The trooper pulled out in pursuit and easily caught the limo. He pulled up behind, and got out of his North Carolina State patrol car. The young trooper walked up to the driver's door. When the glass was rolled down he was very surprised to see who was driving. Trying desperately to maintain his professional attitude, he immediately excused himself and walked back to his car and called his supervisor.

He told the supervisor, "I know we are supposed to enforce the law but I also know that important people are given certain courtesies. I need to know what I should do because I have stopped a very important person."

The supervisor asked, "Is it the governor?"

The young trooper said, "No, he's more important than that."

The supervisor said, "Oh, so it's the president."

The young trooper said, "No, he's even more important than that."

The supervisor finally asked, "Well then, who is it?"

The young trooper said, "I think its Jesus because he's got Billy Graham for a chauffeur!"
