On Pilgrimage
I worked with girls when I was an altar server. I didn't feel my manhood was threatened by it.
In defense of those who disagree with female altar servers (even though I think female altar servers are fine), it's not a sexist thing. Since altar service was formerly connected to the priesthood and was used to encourage priestly vocations, and since the Church is suffering a priestly vocation shortage, some Catholics believe that altar service should be reserved to men in order to once again connect it to the priesthood and encourage young men who serve at the altar to discern a vocation to the priesthood. And of course, there are some Catholics who don't want female altar servers because they're sexists and think women are too unclean to be in the sanctuary. And probably still others whose manhood is threatened by women serving in lay ecclesial ministry. But I don't think you'll find many of those at Phatmass. Era Might
I was considering the Priesthood when I was an altar server, and the presence of female altar servers never affected my interest in the Priesthood. I don't think kids think about those kinds of ecclesio-political questions. Maybe I was just blessedly ignorant back then.

JudgedByGod
yeah, there definitely is only one trindetine mass in maine that i know of, and that's at the cathedral. i should see about getting one started in my area, since it's the next most populated, and we have a basilica. prodigalson
Its an important question to ponder! One that should be taken quite seriously- the fact of the matter is that, although it may not be easy to hear for some, the Church is Patriarchal- Led by men. The position of altar server should be reserved for man because someday he might be celebrating on that altar- something a woman will never do. Does any of this make her inferior- certainly not! The Church has been the greatest protector of true femininity and feminism! It is also worth mentioning that the priests and altar servers are the only people on the altar during the consecration! Isn't it the natural flow for young men to be there with their father- certainly in my secular life there are certain things that only the men of the household did and my sisters weren't allowed to come. I think its a perfectly normal mirror in the spiritual life. Its healthy and normal for men to have time and specific jobs they do with their Fathers.
