dUSt Posted May 5, 2006 Posted May 5, 2006 I wanted to go on a romantic trip to Maine with my wife. Anybody have any advice? Best time of year? Best things to do? Places to stay?
Thy Geekdom Come Posted May 5, 2006 Posted May 5, 2006 You should come to romantic Steubenville instead!
Luthien Posted May 5, 2006 Posted May 5, 2006 Bar Harbor is a really nice coastline town. It has lovely hotels, resteraunts, and neat giftshops. Portland actually is wicked nice too, it also has a lot of places to stay, and theres this place we call the Old Port. Its an actual port with a lot of different gift shops and places to eat. Plus theres our wonderful Cathedral where you can go to Mass.
Sojourner Posted May 5, 2006 Posted May 5, 2006 In order to get the full effect of the beauty of Maine, you have to say "wicked" all the time.
Luthien Posted May 5, 2006 Posted May 5, 2006
best thing to do: dont
Why not? Its not a bad place.
Era Might Posted May 5, 2006 Posted May 5, 2006
M-A-I-N-E spells Maine.
homeschoolmom Posted May 5, 2006 Posted May 5, 2006 It's from a children's book... obviously, you don't read.
OLAM Dad Posted May 5, 2006 Posted May 5, 2006
You should come to romantic Steubenville instead!
I've been to Steubenville. What a dump. : That is; I thought it was a dump until I drove into W. Virginia.
Tindomiel Posted May 5, 2006 Posted May 5, 2006 You should go up to Baxter State Park if possible, and if you like that sort of thing. It's really gorgeous with Moosehead Lake and Mt. Katahdin. Plus you're sure to see lots of moose (meese).
Yeah...it's pretty bad...that one mile stretch or so of Weirton, WV, where there are steaming and smoking pipes going everywhere around, alongside, and over you, and you feel like you're in some futuristically dismal city.
GuyWithAFoil Posted May 5, 2006 Posted May 5, 2006 Almost all of the phatmassers are in the Portland area.. But if you want romantic... you probably wont see us eh? Freeport is also a great place to go, great food and places to shop including THE LL Bean store

As_Humble_as_Water Posted May 5, 2006 Posted May 5, 2006 Come to the Belgrade Lakes area - beautiful, clean lakes with the Western Mts. as backdrops. The eerie sound of loons floating over the water at dusk. Canoe rides as the sun sets. Hikes in the mountains. Lighthouses on the rocky coast. Oh, the smell of pine! Come in June for sun ripened strawberries, picked fresh in the early morning. In July, buy blackberries along the roadside for blackberry buckle. And,oh, glorious! - blueberries served anyway - with cream, pancakes, muffins, cake, and, of course, blueberry pie. And as a special plus, come hear Mass with the "Curé of Ours", Padre Paulo - a truly spiritual event. Yes, Maine, the way life is.
