The Carmelite Monks are a new community of Carmelite religious who have been erected as a Public Association of the Christian Faithful by his Excellency, Bishop David L. Ricken of the Diocese of Cheyenne. These monks are striving to revive the authentic Discalced Carmelite charism as lived by St. Teresa of Jesus and St. John of the Cross. However, the Carmelite Monks are living a strictly monastic expression of the discalced charism, which entails constitutional enclosure. This is what establishes them as monks rather than mendicant friars. Therefore, The Monks of the Most Blessed Virgin Mary of Mount Carmel are not juridically a part of the Discalced Carmelite Order but are striving to live the perfection of the Discalced spirituality and way of life.

The Carmelite Monks are men who are consecrated to God through the Vows of Obedience, Chastity, and Poverty. They make the total Consecration to Jesus through Mary. They live a life of prayer, solitude, penance, and strict separation from the world. Their lives are completely dedicated to interceding for the Church and the world. St. Thérèse proclaimed the Carmelite vocation as being "love in the heart of the Church." As the heart circulates blood throughout the whole body, so the Carmelite is called to circulate grace throughout the Church. This is the essential meaning of the vocation of these cloistered monks.

Just posting a link to the Mystic Monk Coffee thread here. ^_^

In the Internat'l Fellowship of St. Bruno forum, Gemma said they have plans to start an OCD community of nuns there too! Wow! I had read somewhere Fr. Daniel Mary was hoping to have a community of nuns there in the future, though I didn't know they were going to be OCDs. That's pretty awesome!! Where did you hear of this, Gemma?

Does anyone else know about this? It sounds as though it's just an idea/hope for the future now, as the monks still have a lot of work to do in establishing their own monastery, and the plans for the retreat center and new church.

That would be awesome to have an OCD nuns community there too in the mountains in Wyoming!

Oh great! Has anyone heard anything more about this? Have you heard they're going to be OCD nuns? Probably the best thing to do would be to call/write them ..

I just got back from Memorial Day Vacation in East TN.

I think I read on their website that they're planning a convent for traddie OCD nuns down the road from them. Sr. Teresita, whom I've mentioned here before, knows Fr. Daniel Mary, and I think she was planning on talking to him about this, as she feels called to start a traddie Carmel for nuns.

Blessings,
Gemma

Wow! They really do seem like the real deal! I love the simplicity and poverty of their life- even to the point of simple sandals made by the brother cobbler.

I absolutely love everything about this order...

Definitely on my list: Vocation -> Monasticism -> Carmelite Monks of the Immaculate Heart of Mary
