Hi There,

Thought it might be fun to post all of the religious communities in habit that we have in our dioceses. In St. Paul, Minneapolis Archdiocese I can think of:

Women Active:
Missionaries of Charity
Little Sisters of the Poor
Nashville Dominicans
Sisters of Charity of Our Lady Mother of the Church
Sisters in Jesus the Lord
Dominican Sisters of Hawthorne

Men Active:
Franciscan Brothers of Peace

Any I'm missing? (seems there are some cloistered carmelites and franciscans?...)

We have in STL:
MCs, Sisters of St. Francis of the Martyr St. George, Apostles of the Sacred Heart, Little Sisters of the Poor, an order of Vietnamese Franciscans, Carmelites of the Divine Heart of Jesus, Daughters of St. Paul, and the Society Devoted to the Sacred Heart. We also have lots of cloistered nuns.

On the men's side, we have Central Province Dominicans, the monks at St. Louis Abbey, Canons Regular of New Jerusalem, Intercessors of the Lamb (they go to Kenrick-Glennon), Capuchin friars, some other OFM friars that wear habits, and probably some others as well.

Add to that a lot of non-habited orders and a lot of Jesuits, as well.

Hughey-

have you visited the Discalced Carmelite Friars/Nuns?
I know Fr. Jerome. Do you know/can you find out if Mother Jeanne Marie Ange of the Infant Jesus - she has to be in her 90's if she's still alive- is still in Dallas Carmel?

Laura,

What are the numbers in ()? Is that the number of people in the order?
Those are the numbers of different places they are found around the city. You can see more in this thread.

I will have to find out how many we have in each of those communities. I know the Sisters of the Holy Family of Nazareth have a good handful (a retreat I went on last summer was at their convent). I believe the Discalced Carmelites also have a good number. I'll check on the others. :)

I can't even think of half of those who are in habits, the only ones I know are;

The Poor Clare Nuns from Minooka, IL
The Third Order of St. Francis
The Sisters of St. Francis of the Martyr St. George
Dominican Sisters of Springfield
Handmaids of Nazareth
Missionaries of Charity
Community of St. John (sisters, brothers and priests)
(there is more I'm sure but i can't think of who else. however one community has joined in with the OSF sisters, since they were a diffrerent habit, its easy to tell)

These are all communities in Peoria IL

MC IMaGiNaZUN

Carmelite Sisters of the Sacred Heart in Los Angeles.

By the way to all of you outsiders Los Angeles IS NOT the haven for theological and liturgical progressives that many imagine mindlessly for it to be.

There are a lot of habited and semi-habited orders around here in the west coast.
