Okay...so it's been on my heart for a while...

I'm not sure I want to live in the US much longer. With all the depression, the economics, the threat of terrorism, and the culture, I don't want to raise my kids in this country. I figure, though, that a catechist could have a stable job in a traditionally Catholic country and could have a rich ministry...and the fact is that I think Ireland is the LAST place in the world someone would nuke.

So...anyone know if Ireland is hiring catechists?

Jennie is aboard, too...she'd love to live there. :P:

I know it has its own problems...every country does. What are its problems?

See, the main thing I hate is the bad news in America...always bad, depressing news. I have anxiety disorder...I want to get somewhere less "American."

if we can get more people to make it affordable, there's two great islands we could get that'd be great for fishing and raising cattle et cetera, such that you would have a buffer if you could not necessarily make enough money as a catechist.

L_D has sworn that he'd drop everything and come with us if I got a group together to buy one of these islands

this one already has a cottage on it:
http://www.vladi-private-islands.de/sale/s...y%20Island.html

this one doesn't but is in the river shannon and closer to a latin mass indult:
http://www.vladi-private-islands.de/sale/s...e%20Island.html

they're both about 30 acres... so at most we'd wanna get at most 20 people, or couples, which would cost us 50,000 euros per person. Vladi Private Islands said they would hook us up with some irish banks.

there could even be a big part of income derived from making some sort of retreat center on the island; which would always be good for a catechist too.

Why am I not surprized that Al has an island in mind?! :P:

You can go live in Luxembourg. It is a teeny weeny country that is 99% catholic.

But Ireland is the only way to go, Mary. You must know that, with McGraths for relations.

Secularism in Ireland is on the increase; Lux, being smack bang in the middle of Western continental Europe, suffers from all the secular relativist rubbish that you find in the surrounding countries.

Never mind what you want. Where does God want you to live, settle down, and raise your family?

Love and prayers,

PP

which is why I would aim for traditional rural ireland, like where these islands are situated. haha :P: it's always the major cities that are the sources of secularization and the forces of evil no matter where you go in the world.

Yes, I realize that secularism is on the rise there, but I'd like to keep it from rising more. It can't be as bad as the US, and I know that that rise in secularism assures me of ministry work to do.

As for what God wants, He hasn't told me. However, generally, when He places a persistent desire in your heart, it is a sign that it's what He wants you to do (and if it's sinful, you know it's not :P:).

I've wanted to move there for a long time. So does Jennie.

Oh, and Aloysius, no, I won't buy an island...unless I get enough money to build a retreat center on it...I would love to run a retreat center. :D:

I've got some Irish penpals, and according to them, Ireland is a paradise of Catholic orthodoxy compared to what I'm used to. Then again, I live in Maine....

Ireland has its own terrorists, you know....

if you live in the Republic you're not likely to be targeted by the rIRA, much less would any splinter of the IRA ever consider nuking anything... they still have some vaguely catholic sensibilities regarding weapons of mass destruction, I believe.

I still say you should consider one of these islands if you want to move there. like I said, there could be a retreat center on there; and it would guarentee a secuirity buffer for starting a job as a catechist (I don't think those types of jobs pay that well anywhere in the world, quite frankly)... you know, fishing and cattle grazing.

couldn't hurt to get a group together and talk, through vladi, to an irish bank about financing

It depends really. No matter where in the world you live, there is always going to be a certain amount of secularisation and orgainised crime. The north is quite different from the south-attaitudes towards things like religion are very different. Ireland isn't perfect. It's not some untouched country fairytale island where everyone smokes a pipe and farms. It's far from that. Of course there are rural areas where things haven't cahnged much, but getting proprty in those areas isn't easy.

........ look at the pretty islands, raph, look at the pretty islands! :P:

What about planning permission?

Posted

yeah okay so this one isn't thought through too much... but like I said it couldn't hurt to talk to an irish bank.

anyway, that's the thing that'd kill me about living in ireland, all the excessive regulations and taxations they have tryin to immitate the social policies of the rest of western europe. I'm sure it'd be paradise for that american-democrat girlfriend of yours, Raph. :P:

It important in certain areas to have tight planning restrictions though. Otherwise islands like the two you showed would have been bought and ruined by now
