EcceNovaFacioOmni Posted August 13, 2006 Posted August 13, 2006 Can an act considered sinful by someone with a misinformed conscience be sinful? Say an overly scrupulous person believes something rather benign to be a sin and does it anyway. Must that act be confessed?
cappie Posted August 13, 2006 Posted August 13, 2006 The scrupulous conscience is nothing else but a state of fear. One may act contrary to a scrupulous without sinning, even if the act be undertaken with great fear of commiting sin. The principle laid down holds even if the scrupulous person at the moment of acting does not think of his fear as a mere scruple. A scrupulous person may do anything he sees a conscientious people do even though it may be against his conviction. He need not use anymore than average carefulness when acting. So the act should not be confessed if it is due to scruples and reasonable persons undertaking the same action do not sin
