Old_Joe
Democratic Monarchy. I think Poland had a Monarchy in which the king was elected from the nobles. Kinda like the Pope being elected from among the cardinals.
can someone explain to me what's up with the whole monarchy thing? Are you guys serious about it? cuz I don't understand why anyone would want to revert...
Well one reason one might want to revert to something previous is if one believed that a previous time ran things better than in current times. Socrates
Constitutionally-limited republic. Of course, the problem is people can always ignore or amend away a constitution which puts checks and balances on governemtn power. Recently I saw an ad for a book about the constitution, in which the author said we should get rid of the constitution because it got in the way of "pure democracy." But pure democracy was not the goal of the American founders. The Constitution was as much a check on mob rule as on absolutist tyranny!

The American founders went into the Constitutional convention because of the ideals around Bacon's Rebellion. They knew the federal government needed more power to resolve some of the critical issues within and in between the states.
Old_Joe
Why didn't I think of this before? Dennis: "Listen, strange women lyin' in ponds distributin' swords is no basis for a system of government. Supreme executive power derives from a mandate from the masses, not from some farcical aquatic ceremony."

iKonstantin
A ruler with an iron fist and the power to do as pleased. Preferably a Catholic one, but if that is not possible, one with the peoples best interests at heart. (Which, ironically, would make him be living a Catholic philosophy!) It is the only real way to get things done in life. Democracy fails when it comes to getting things accomplished. brat Konstantin
ruso
Theocracy did not work in Geneva. Quite the contrary, Calvinist Geneva on a regular basis had witch-hunts and the execution of those who opposed Calvin or Calvinism. (Re Michael Servantes).
Miguel Servet no Servantes or Cervantes. Miguel Servet was a medicate and teologo dead for order of Calvin. Miguel de Cervantes was a writer, author of Don Quijote. Ah the best is the anarchy. Edited October 4, 2006 by ruso
