Order Of The Eternal Word...

This order was co-founded by mother Angelica but was "let go" from her influence according to Arroyo's biography of her (which I haven't finished). The prior order having been taken in a more monastic direction, mother then turned to the Franciscan Missionaries of the Eternal Word to serve EWTN directly. So, does anyone know anything more about what happened to the "Order of the Eternal Word" community?

I've wondered too, but I don't know. Raymond Arroyo doesn't really talk about it in his book. He just mentions them breaking off.

I know the Sister Servants of the Eternal Word are more independent of Mother Angelica than when they first started.

When I was with the PCPA in OH, one of the sister's brothers was one of the Knights of the Eternal Word. It was more of a religious community than it is now, from what I recall. I remember that her brother left, because the focus of the community changed, although I cannot remember what happened. They became more protectors of our Lord in the chapel. Beyond that?

I know they are single men living in community. . .and while I am not positive, I don't believe they take any vows. Anyone else know?

No, it's not the SSEW or MFVA... The "Order of the Eternal Word" was completely another community that Mother founded before either! Most, including myself before I read her biography, don't know about them because it became autonomous from her a short time after its founding.

The Order of the Eternal Word was the original MFVA- although not strictly speaking. Mother intended them to be Franciscan and active-contemplative from the beginning, but their male superiors wanted them to be Augustinian, penitential and contemplative. So Mother 'released' the order, and those who stayed with her eventually became the Missionaries of the Eternal Word, and then Franciscan Missionaries of the Eternal Word. From what I know- the male superiors were recalled by their respective dioceses/orders eventually, and this community no longer exists. Hope this helps.

Did you see my link above about regarding the Knights of the Holy Eucharist? I thought they were called the Knights of the Eternal Word at one point. Their charism, among other things, is to protect and adore our Lord in the Blessed Sacrament that is perpetually exposed in their chapel/basilica. I think it's what you are looking for. When I was reading M. Angelica's book in the monastery, I had asked about the Knights, who do exist still, as one of the sister's brother was still one, but leaving that month.

RE: "No longer exists." Thanks Brendan. That was what I was wondering. I HAD realized that some went with Mother to form the MFVAs, but I hadn't realized that ALL were recalled to their dioceses/orders.

That is interesting. However, I don't think the timing matches-up with the Order of the Eternal Word. But...I could be mistaken.

Not all- only the superiors. The other members who left Irondale eventually did in their other location, and they might be priests and/or religious in other places, but no longer as this Order.
