shortnun Posted October 23, 2006 Posted October 23, 2006 When Bl. Joan of Aza was pregnant with St. Dominic, she had a dream of a dog with a torch in its mouth circling the globe, signifying that the child to be born would set the world on fire.
MIKolbe Posted October 23, 2006 Posted October 23, 2006 My Avatar is very special to me. It was a gift from IcePrincess (she made it), and hugheyforlife (her generosity). It is one of my favorite pictures ever! Mary and Jesus, praying. It shows the love they have for eachother... it makes me think of something i heard once... "Mothers hold their baby in their arms and look up and say 'there's Heaven'. Mary looked down to Heaven. Heaven was in her arms." The picture reminds me of the bonds between Mary and Jesus. The love they have for one another. Her Immaculate Heart and His Sacred Heart.
zunshynn Posted October 23, 2006 Posted October 23, 2006 Mine is my favorite scripture passage: "And they went to tell the others what had happened on the way, and how they had come to know Him them in the breaking of the bread." HugheyforLife made it... and I love it. And the Pic is JPII holding up the Blessed Sacrament... because I know adoration is going to save the world. This verse describes the actions of two of Jesus’ disciples after they encountered Jesus after His glorious resurrection from death to life. Typical disciples, they’re a bit thick. They’re talking about everything that had happened with Jesus while they walk along the road to Emmaus, and then Jesus comes along and asks them what they’re talking about, but they don’t know that it’s Jesus. Like I said: they were a tad thick. Anyway, one of them is like, “Where have you been? Jesus, a prophet of God was crucified by the chief priests” and they mention he’s been dead for three days, but that the tomb was found empty, and the women believe that angels told them he was alive. It’s funny because while they hoped he was there redeemer, they really can’t grasp that he really is. It forces me to think about how I encounter Jesus. You have to wonder why the disciples didn’t know that this was Jesus… How different He must have looked! I’d like to think that I would have been smart enough to figure out Who it was, but I don’t know if I would have. Maybe sometimes we miss Jesus entirely because we lack faith, because we aren’t looking for Him, or are not open to finding him where, or through whom He chooses to reveal Himself. Jesus, probably exasperated, calls them geniuses, and tells them they should believe the prophets. To show them that all of these things were necessary, he recounts all of the scriptures that foreshadow Him. Later they admit that their hearts were burning within them as He opened up the Scriptures to them—it’s really manifests the beauty of the Word of God. St. Luke says that He gave them the impression that He was going to keep walking, but, still unaware that this man is the Christ, they ask Him to stop and eat with them because it was getting dark. The beautiful reminder in this is that Jesus’ mission never ends—all things considered, Jesus was a fairly busy guy. But He does stop, the Gospel tells us, to eat with them. “And while He was with them at table, He took bread, said the blessing, broke it and gave it to them.” Jesus stopped for the Eucharist, to give the Bread of Life to them—strength for the impending darkness. And it was in this breaking of the bread that they recognized Him. So the first thing that Jesus does after His Resurrection is celebrate Mass! How awesome! He begins with proclamation of the Word, and it is in this that the disciples hearts begin to burn, in preparation for the breaking of the Bread of Life, the Body and Blood, Soul and Divinity of Jesus Christ, when their Redeemer would become known to them. Imagine the glorious intimacy of this communion! And it is this very intimacy that we are invited to experience at every single Mass the world over. Jesus vanished to their eyes at this Mass, and yet they KNEW HIM! It is a beautiful testimony of intense faith and at the same time, intense reality that is not diminished at all by the fact they’re senses cannot fully comprehend His Presence. And after they get over their amazement of what has just happened, they go to tell the others who are also rejoicing because Peter has seen Jesus too. I am reminded of the call that we all have to be missionaries, because “they went to tell the others”. We often think that missionaries are those that have undertaken special tasks to bring the Gospel to far-off regions. In reality, we are all missionaries and often our tasks are small and unpretentious. Sometimes it just means making sure that those around us know that Christ abides in us by our love. It suggests that the greatest testimony that we can give to others is to tell them of how grace has worked in our lives—“what had happened on the way.” It is through our own experiences and of course, through the Eucharist, that we give witness that “the Lord has truly been raised.”

ardillacid Posted October 23, 2006 Posted October 23, 2006 The 1st picture in my avatar represents the otherworldly character of squirrels. The 2nd demonstrates how squirrels are intelligent like humans. the 3rd shows the pugnacious nature of squirrels, and the final photo we see that they are in fact jedi knights
Proud2BCatholic139 Posted October 23, 2006 Posted October 23, 2006 I swear, at my house squirrels are harmless, in Winona, they are evil...

avemaria40 Posted October 23, 2006 Posted October 23, 2006 Mine is St. Gianna Beretta Molla holding two of her children with Mother Teresa's quote about abortion, since St. Gianna gave her own life to save her last child (though the doctors told her she should have an abortion) and I think it's an important message many people need to hear (or see)
