At my youth group, people recently began saying "obv" instead of obviously and using the phrase "oh girl" when greeting both guys and girls. This has now spread to our forums, and that drives me crazy!

They claim these abbreviations and slang make them feel more comfortable in conversations, as well as helping shy people to come out of their shells when they are able to use these terms too. :idontknow: What do you guys think?

Y'all is a contraction of 'you all'. While I suppose you can argue that it's a word, it's still not a formal word. The third person plural is either 'you', or 'you all', not y'all.

Nope. The third person plural is "they." The second person plural is "you." "You all" is the second person plural with a modifier.

Oops. Ha. Probably not a good mistake for me to make when I'm trying to make a point.

Yes, I meant 2nd person.

Actually, I have a good reason for my mistake, I was thinking about spanish for some reason, and thinking about using Uds. with the third person verb conjugation, which is how it's done.

But this is english.. ha.
