Mercy me Posted January 17, 2007 Posted January 17, 2007 You don't need it to purchase the ticket except that the name on the ticket had better match exactly the name on the passport. You will need to expedite it. I have seen them turn them around in 24 hours. It is a little nerve wracking to do it that way but it is possible. Don'r worry about asking questions. This is what I do for a living. I couldn't answer those questions from the kids.

And, if I should, how do I go about doing that. thank you and I do appreciate this
Mercy me Posted January 17, 2007 Posted January 17, 2007 I know that it is the regular fee plus about $60.00 to expedite plus the shipping. If you do it yourself instead of going through a visa service they will we collect all of you information process it and seal it in an express mail envelope and you pay it all at the post office. ( This is assuming that the post office where you need to go.) They will tell you there exactly how to handle the express mail fees. I don't have that information at home. I am sorry.

Theologian in Training Posted January 17, 2007 Author Posted January 17, 2007 License Address change leading to my having to get a new licence --- check Passport Photos --- check Passport expedited ---check Airplane ticket --- waiting until talk to friend tonight It is pretty much done now. What was most interesting about this day was that when I went to get the passport photos, it was a parishoner taking the photos and when I went to the Hall of Records, it was a parishoner. It was pretty funny actually, because I was told for my general safety and to avoid being detained, I would be better off not wearing clerics, so I was in "street clothes" so when I went to the Hall of Records, after she kept staring at me she finally asked me if I was from St. Margaret's. I told her I had and she said she knew I looked familiar It actually took longer to get into the building than to get my passport, since I needed to patted down as a result of my having a pacemaker... This ought to be an interesting experience, to say the very very least
homeschoolmom Posted January 18, 2007 Posted January 18, 2007 That's hilarious.... Hmmm... you look familiar.... do you go to my church? Yeah, I'm your priest. You should send her a postcard.

Birgitta Noel Posted January 21, 2007 Posted January 21, 2007 It might not hurt to look into some medical insurance for overseas. Your US insurance (likely) won't cover you if you need to fly back for a medical emergency. I'm not trying to scare or dissuade you from going. GO. HAVE A WONDERFUL TIME. And know that once you go you're ruined, you'll spend a lot of your free time plotting how to get to go AGAIN!

However, my friend wants to leave on Feb 12th and that does not allow me to get a passport in time. Would anyone happen to know of a good reliable passport expediting service? I heard they exist and looked it up online, to find countless ones. Yet, I don't know what to trust and whether they are as reliable as they say they are. So, would any of you happen to know of a good and reliable service? thanks
Hey thats my birthday! Sounds like you got things rolling right along Father, you know your pham will be praying for ya! For a good time
SJRod55 Posted January 21, 2007 Posted January 21, 2007 Flying has changed a lot in the last 20 years. I fly around the world frequently. 99.9% of the time there are no incidents at all, the other .1% it is ground related, lost bags, weather delays and boredom. Take a good book for those layovers - if you have any - and whilst on the flight relax and enjoy the movie or the ever moving route map that seems to transfix you into watching the progress of the flight. Be comfortable and take your rosary. There is a lot of time to take stock of your new adventure and the people are friendly and supportive. As said before 'life is not a rehearsal' go for it.
VeniteAdoremus Posted January 21, 2007 Posted January 21, 2007 Oh, rosaries and travel mix excellently! If you want some pointers on Dutch I'll be happy to oblige However, almost everybody here speaks English and we're so eager to show off that you probably will not get a chance to practise it.
Yes, I know, but when I was a child I had two incredibly scary incidents that have left me scarred ever since One was when we were trying to take off, and the wind was so bad that the plane was shaking and we could barely get off the runway, when we finally managed to, we were thrown back down and actually bounced on the runway. We then taxied and did it all over again The other time was when we were flying over the Rocky Mountains when all of a sudden the plane dropped (I felt like I was on a roller coaster) and everyone screamed. I know those happened a long long time ago, but those are definitely memories that are hard to forget everytime I even look at a plane. I am just going to be doing a lot of praying and, hopefully, sleeping since the flight takes off at 6:00 in the evening. Thank you all for your help and your continued prayers, it has been quite helpful. God Bless
