Our conversation seemed quite normal, traditional, loyal to the Church.there spirit was quite Carmelite as i understood it....the only thing that would concern me is that there founding, and Marian spirituality is directly connected to the Apparitions/prophecies at Garabandal, which the local Bishops continually disapprove of, or have negative co0nclusive judgement, i should say....i do find that particular apparition very interesting..i see on their website they have a version of the Our Lady of Garabandal image.. hope this helps.. hoosieranna Posted February 6, 2007 Posted February 6, 2007 They run a discernment program at Ave Maria University in Naples, Florida. There's information about it on the university website: www.avemaria.edu
Chiquitunga Posted February 6, 2007 Posted February 6, 2007 I wonder what the "Home of the Mother" is though? Maybe the home of the Virgin Mary, yes, but just wondering it's significance for their order ..
Jennifer Posted February 6, 2007 Posted February 6, 2007 Thank you for sharing.......there are some excellent photos.!!

In the description of their spirituality:
The Servant Sister of the Home lives a spirituality of identification with Jesus Christ and transformation in Him, from the womb of the Virgin Mary.
JMJmom Posted February 16, 2007 Posted February 16, 2007 The Home of the Mother is said to be the gift which our Lady wishes to give her Son. It is a beautiful community with a large and very active lay membership. Many retreats and pilgrimages include all members of the family, young and old. I am a lay member. We are blessed to be part of a community where we can attend retreats with the founders, Fr. Raphael Alonso and Mother Ana when they are here from Spain. There are 60 sisters in the community and they are all young and full of love for the Lord. They have a strong presence of holiness that makes the Home such a family - that is the best way to describe it, a family. There are also summer camps for the youth (Summer Encounters) and Holy Week Encounters for the whole family. We members are the family, God of course our father and Mary is our Mother. There are the Servant Priests, Servant Sisters, Servant Brothers, HMY, Home of the Mother youth and CAHM, Community of Adults of the Home of the Mother. There main home is in Spain about 30 minutes from Garabandal. At the request of the Bishop in Jacksonville they now have a commuinty in there where they serve a local parish and teach at their school. They have a community in Chone, Ecuador where they run a school and soup kitchen for the poor. They also have a community in Naples at Ave Maria University where they are in charge of the Discernment program for women and teach the homeschool co-op that the University professors children attend. Some priests and brothers live there also. We are blessed to know them and they come up here to the Tampa Bay area to visit and hold retreats and share the three missions of the Home which are the Defense of the Eucharist, Defense of our Lady especially in the privilege of her virginity and the conquest of the youth for Jesus Christ. The sisters have an awesome connection with the youth and are so fun to be around we love them very much! We are very blessed to have Brother Henry come to our parish next Saturday for a Lenten retreat! If you ever get over to Spain, go visit them, they'd love to have you! Peace, Jackie “May the tender love that you feel for the Mother of God impel you to irradiate the Christian values in your environments.” John Paul II to the Home of the Mother In the Audience on August 28, 1985 “Learn like Peter what following Jesus truly means: Denying oneself, and losing one’s own life for His sake and for the sake of the Gospel.” Benedict XVI to the Servant Brothers of the Home of the Mother in the Wednesday Audience of May 17th, 2006

They link to the Benedictine sisters who are involved particularly. But also the pdf flyer that they link to has the sisters you originally asked about.

Sister Elena who edits and translates the magazine speaks like 8 languages her native language being Italian. Here is an article they asked me to write about my conversion: http://www.homeofthemother.org/mag/previous/132/jackie.html Most of it came through in the translation but not all. i.e, I said 3 feet of mud not half meter of clay! (European English, I guess!)
Marieteresa Posted February 16, 2007 Posted February 16, 2007 They hold retreats here in Tampa bay? where?
JMJmom Posted February 17, 2007 Posted February 17, 2007
They hold retreats here in Tampa bay? where?
There was one in December, here at my house and there will be one next Saturday the 24th at Our Lady of the Rosary in Land O'Lakes beginning with mass at 9am - come on over! The sisters are unable to come this time because of school, traveling to EWTN and Jacksonville but Brother Henry (recently ordained Deacon Henry) will be conducting the retreat with a focus on Lent and introducing the Home with a short presentation. There have been several Silent retreats in Jacksonville and will soon be putting out details on the Holy Week Encounter in Madison, FL as well as the Summer Encounters. There are also HMY meetings (for HS Senior/college age kids) at another member's house once a week here in Land O'Lakes. If you can come on Saturday, I'd love to introduce you around! PM me and I'll give you the details, e-mail you the flyer and some pics of the sisters! Peace, Jackie
