The Catholic Church does teach that alien life other than our own exists, although not exactly as we may off the cuff think of alien life, and before you think I am off my rocker give me a second to explain. We know from the Sacred Scriptures that God is very creative and that no where does He tell us directly all the intelligent life or even just life that He created but also we know of one species that He created. Simply put, the Angels, they are pure spirits without flesh created by God not native to this planet or even this universe for that matter. They would classify as aliens and we know of their existence.

We know that our God is very creative and that all that “exists” other than Himself was created by Him and is maintained by Him. Thus all things are from God. It is human egotism that we want to think that we are the only creation of God, but even thou it may be egotistical there really is no proof that intelligent alien life in our universe exists other than ourselves. For they are never mentioned in the Scriptures and they certainly have not taken the time to introduce themselves so the Church teaching more exactly is that it is possible for other intelligent alien life in our universe to exist, but we don’t know if it. Moreover, the question would be why would our God not inform us of such alien life?

Most alien encounters of any kind normally match up with some mental disorders and sometimes demonic involvement, then the bulk of the cases can be explained into naturally occurring events such as airplanes and so on. Alien encounters have simply become so apart of our culture that it is something like the thought of witches, evil spirits, and so on were to our ancient fathers. Then in our culture of “reason” we attempt to explain everything away into a neat little package instead of looking for what the reason of such events are.

For example, many report that aliens have paralyzed them unable to move on the bed. When one is in deep sleep the mind disconnects cognitive thought from the body, otherwise punching a foe in a dream would be literally punching your bead partner. When this deep sleep is interrupted one isn’t entirely awake and the mind isn’t fully reconnected yet so one suffers from the feeling of not being able to move, likewise because one is partly asleep the brain attempts to justify this reality it is facing which sometimes means there is a superimposing of “something.”

Satan works to distract us from what is truly important and the real problem is it mental, emotional, physical, or spiritual. There is a book that C. S. Lewis wrote about demons, the story is about a “master demon” speaking to an “apprentice demon.” There is a line that goes something like this, “When there is a fire, make them run around with life-preservers. Likewise when there is a flood, make them run around with fire extinguishers.” But regardless it is not something we should be fearful of for “fear” is the primary tool for Satan to influence a person. “Do not be afraid”, as the Venerable Pope John Paul the Second stated.

But to words of wisdom if I have any on this topic, if they don’t want to formally contact us there is no reason for us to worry about them. It is just a “pop culture” adventure. It is something apart of our culture and something we think about in the back of our minds. I always watched Star Trek as a kid (still do) so I figured that they didn’t want anything to do with us because we really don’t have anything to offer them. Gene Rodenberry, the atheistic secular humanist that he was.

Link 1. The government stated several hours later that the "lights" were actually fighter jets and rocket flares.

Link 2. Nah...too fake looking. I felt like I was watching Stargate SG-1 off of the Sci-fi channel (great show by the way...)And why is Stephen Greer in charge of this??

Link 3. Again, why is Stephen Greer a leading person in this field? :idontknow: He's a MD, not astronomer, or even meteorologist. Why doesn't someone with bigger credentials step up? They guy has ran a hospital...I'm so impressed. The UFO crowd needs to at least get some leading astronomers on their side before they make these claims.

Don't take me wrong, I don't want to sound mean, this is just my personal opinion. Do I believe in extra terrestrial life? No. But that doesn't mean I can't change. ^_^

Is there something out there that we don't know about? probably.
Are they taking us away? I doubt it.

On the other hand, Shakespeare says "There are more things in heaven and earth Horatio, than are dreamed of in your philosophy" and he is always right :)

Oh how true. I do believe we are not alone. I believe there are other life forms and that our God of course made them all.

Speaking of CS Lewis, check out the "Space Trilogy" ("Out of the Silent Planet," "Perelandra," and "That Hideous Strength.") Good stuff, and food for though, IMHO.

and this is new information??
and you forgot to mention angels....

The CS Lewis books is the Screwtape letters. It's really good... MrCatholicCat is right in saying not to be distracted by such things. There is someone in my family distracted by a mystic or psychic or whatever she calls herself now... and tries to give an explanation for EVERYTHING... including the disconnection of the cognitive thought... she says that the person's soul is in flight and hasn't returned yet.... it's stupid.... anyone guessed who I'm talking about yet? hahaha... maybe I should start a thread on her....

We do not know this. I believe God could well have made more life and if that is the case it would presumably have also been made in his image ... however there is ample reason and probability, in a Galaxy the size of ours to believe there is not only other life but also other intelligent life. I just hope they are not as selfish as we are and that we can 'learn' from them and not try to destroy them

Posted

How do you know they are more advance from us, making the very large presumption that they do exist? What happens if they are still in their version of the stone age still clicking two rocks together trying to make fire?

Posted

They may or may not be 'more' advanced than us. That we would have to see. But I hope that regardless we would try to find some way to befriend them. And as Star Trek did - not to interfere with their development!

there's gotta be life out there. i saw a nasa astrophysicist say there are 10 to the 21st power starts out there...
1,000,000,000,000,000,000,000 stars. in kids' terms, that's a million trillion. take the number trillion and multiply it a million times. that's a lot of stars!

and if each had, say, 3 planets... the number would be three times as large for where the life might exist. plus there's astroids etc etc.
i wouldn't be surprise if there were a million different alien segments. a trillion itself is enough i'd think, with my vast knowledge of science, to have at least 1 group of life.

the odds are good to say the least.

Most Stars that we know of do not host any planetoids or any space objects that could support living environment for any known intelligent species. Further the stars that we do know of having planetoids they exist outside of the Goldie Lox’s Range of a solar system, moreover most that we find are gas giants. This could change since our means of detecting solar systems has greatly advanced in our understanding of gravity.

For what we do is look for a star that wobbles, like our own sun. For a gas giant like Jupiter puts out massive gravity displacement or a gravimetric field thus it has a minor affect on our sun making it pull off its axes. Using this same concept when we look to a star instead of looking in the space around it we look for a wobble on its axes, thus we can know there is some strong gravity field that is causing it most likely being a gas giant thus possibly other planets or at least moons. But even in theses conditions the prediction of live is very low unless life exists in other forms, for example micro bacteria that we can find even in the vacuum of space.

Regardless there is no tangible proof of other intelligent alien life existing in our universe...
