The Iranian Governent is up in arms over this movie. According to the BBC web site today (Tuesday) they claim it ammounts to psychological warfare against Iran and its people.

I will be interested in visiting the above web site to see why it is not on the recommended viewing list.

"...while they come away with little or no appreciation for what freedom is..."

I really don't think that is true. I think you can see how much they appreciate it if they go alone with so few people.

"Long ago there reigned a clan of Speedo-wearing militaristic psychopaths called the Spartan"

I guess they should have been more true to the warriors of the time and wear nothing.

The blood is something that i see just goes with this kind of film. If there wasnt as much i dont think it would have been as good as a war movie as it is. The passion had tons of blood in it but no one complains about it, if there wasnt any blood it wouldnt have been as effective on the audience as it was either.

Saw it last Saturday.
I haven't read Frank Miller's graphic novel, but I 've seen it, and the movie looks pretty close.
It's based as much on Frank Miller's (sometimes twisted) imagination as it is on history.
If you dig Frank Miller graphic novels and his unique over-the-top style (think Sin City), you'll probably like this one.
If you're looking for something intellectual and strictly true to history, you probably won't.

I read about Iran's reaction, and found it a bit ridiculous - lighten up people, it's a comic-book, not a political tract!
For whatever its other sins, this flick was refreshingly free of any kind of political-correctness!

Btw - I got a kick out of this NRO article!

Woah. just saw it. Great example of Just war and sacrifice. The persian thing is overdone and to be fair Iran has not done much in the last few years to help the image.

The review page is bias, and wrong. That was a great movie. As a soldier I clap my hands
What isnt?

point-by-point, wanna show me what isnt? Just curious.
I'm not going to go through every point but it wasn't 300 VS 1 million. Both the Greeks and Persians had help from other sides. The Spartans didn't fight solo, they had help from even "the corinthians" [among lots of others], as Persians also had help, it wasnt like the movie dictates, not even close.

Well the spartans werent solo in the movie. 300 keeps some basic truth to it but is more for entertainment. If anything many people including me will go on to learn the real story.

I saw this last night ... not impressed.

I mean, I recognize the technical excellence in rendering the story, but it really didn't connect for me ... maybe it's this style of movie? Although I felt I connected more to Sin City than this one. :idontknow:
