treynolds Posted March 28, 2007 Share Posted March 28, 2007 Hello, The other day i went to confession and when it came time to recieve absolution, he did not (audibly at least) say "I absolve you from you sins in the Name of the Father..." He only (audibly) said "May God bless you and Mary pray for you" I asked him afterwards if he gave me absolution and he said yes. Does the priest have to audibly say that prayer? cappie Posted March 28, 2007 Share Posted March 28, 2007 The priest has to say the words of absolution but you don't necessarily have to hear it. When I was young the absolution was given in Latin and the priest said the words while I said the act of contrition. All I heard in English was "go in peace".
