Jesus Not Really Crucified, Libya's Gaddafi Says

Libyan leader Colonel Muammar Gaddafi has told a mass prayer meeting for Muslims in Niger that Jesus was not really nailed to the cross but that another man who resembled him was crucified in his place.

"It is not correct to say that," Colonel Gaddafi said, according to a Sunday Herald-Sun report. "Another man resembling Jesus was crucified in his place."

Colonel Gaddafi also told listeners that it was a mistake to believe that Christianity was a universal faith alongside Islam.

"There are serious mistakes - among them the one saying that Jesus came as a messenger for other people other than the sons of Israel," Reuters quoted him as saying.

"Christianity is not a faith for people in Africa, Asia, Europe and the Americas," he said.

Colonel Gaddafi, who is seeking to expand his influence in Africa, said his arguments came from the Koran.

"It is a mistake that another religion exists alongside Islam. There is only one religion which is Islam after Mohammed," he said in the sermon.

"All those believers who do not follow Islam are losers," he added.

"We are here to correct the mistakes in the light of the teachings of the Koran."

If I remember correctly, Islam teaches that it's prophets (which they believe to include Jesus) would die of natural death, not be murdered.

Yup, the Qu'ran says exactly what Gaddafi said.
"That they said (in boast), "We killed Christ Jesus the son of Mary, the Apostle of God"; - but they killed him not, nor crucified him, but so it was made to appear to them, and those who differ therein are full of doubts, with no (certain) knowledge, but only conjecture to follow, for of a surety they killed him not:-" (4:157)
'Course, Sunni Islam also believes that Jesus will come back as the Messiah at the End of Days. A lot of syncretism, that.

Gaddafi is also a failed pan-Middle East Islamist. Other governments in the region, no innocents themselves, looked at his proposals and thought they were absurd. So, he developed a sort of Islamic Socialism with his jamahiriyah idea. It's all a little strange.

Well sure. But 1.3 billion folks think he's right. A sizable enough portion where we can't just dismiss them as loonies (loony though they may be).

Please understand "correcting our mistakes" includes killing us.

Restated: "All those who do not follow Islam are poopie-heads"

Please....be a little more infantile in your misguided assertions.

This doesn't make any sense at all. Why would Mel Gibson lie to me?

I was curious to if you have the original written/audio statement in Arabic? Maybe a link to where you got the information because I havn't been able to find it on the net, except through personal websites and blogs, and I was curious as to the full context of his remarks.

In regards to Muslims and Jesus, it's not secrete that Muslims dont believe that Jesus was Crucified. Muslims believe that God made Judas appear to be Jesus Christ, and so he was crucified for his lying about God's prophet. It's never been a secrete of Muslims, that's probably the most key point that seperates Muslims from Christians. We believe that Jesus was God and died for our sins, Muslims don't believe in a single element of that doctrine.

It's often a misconception that the culture of Islam is what seperates Christians and Muslims but it's really not.

1.) Prayer, Muslims pray seven formal prayers, Christian monks in ancient Arabia were known to pray seven formal prayers
2.) The Quran, the name plagerizes the Syriac Orthodox Christian writing "the Quryana" [in which the Islamic Quran even mentions Christian Martyrs].
3.) Never ending Calligraphy that symbolizes God's infinate nature [as found on Islamic shrines, mosques, etc], were found on churches long before Islam
4.) Not eating pork, has to do with the strict diet of some Christian Monks

...and the list goes on, it would take forever to list everything but Islam began as a Christian "sect" as Protestantism, and evolved into its current theology and doctrine.

The greatest point that seperates Christians and Muslims is:

1.) As Christians we believe Muhammed wasn't a prophet, but a false prophet like Benny Hinn [among other false prophets in protestantism]
2.) As Christians we believe [and know because of our history] that Jesus was God and died on the cross for our sins.
