Okay, so I'm no longer on my father's health insurance because I'm no longer a student. Anyone have any advice on good companies, etc.? Jen's hoping to get a job once we're married with a company that has really good insurance, so I'll switch over to that as soon as I can, but I need something in the meantime...I have no prescriptions and I haven't gotten sick and thrown up in over 10 years or had a fever in an even longer time, so I don't really care how much I would save on prescriptions and I'm not all that concerned with how little a copay would cost me (although that's a little more likely to be an issue than prescriptions), but I'd especially like something with a lower premium. The company my church uses would charge $150/month for just me alone, which simply isn't affordable when you're making a youth minister's salary.

Anyway, anyone know of anything better?

Thanks.

God bless,

Micah

:ohno:

I think it's so sad that the Church preaches liveable wage and all that and then doesn't get enough financial contributions to back it up.

well, my parish does get enough in contributions, but just doesn't pay their employees a livable wage. right now i'm hoping to get my daughter into SCHIP, which is a state-funded children's insurance program, because i can't afford to put her on my plan.

I have blue cross and blue shield. My office visit copay is only $30, and prescription dpends on the medication and whether or not it's preferred by them.

Yeah, that makes me even more sad. :(

Call an independant insurance agent. There is such a thing as short term health insurance and there is even insurance market toward recent college graduates in need of health insurance. Sometimes you school might have some information.

You should be covered by WICC.

I was thinking that. In minnesota you can be covered if you do not make enough.

With my preschool job in Tampa, when I work full time, I will get health and other insurance for either free or 10 dollars a month. That is what I believe.

When I was doing youth ministry (well the first gig I had health insurance) the second go round I took out emergency health insurance. It was only to be used if I broke a leg or needed surgery. the deductible is huge but its far less than what it would cost for a broken leg.

and it it was a one lump sum.

something to consider

I have thought about risking it ... insurance is pricey and I am pretty healthy ... but the wiser part of me knows not to do that. Sigh.

I would personally go with a major medical plan ... no frills, but you're covered if anything big happens. A high deductible health plan coupled with a Health Savings Account could also be a good way to go.

Insurance is super expensive, though. I think employers are going to be less and less likely to offer great insurance plans because the premiums are so outrageous.

I agree with you Terra. The rate of increase in the price of insurance is going to make it very difficult for companies to provide coverage.

YOu mean I should be getting PAID?!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Naw, when the parish is out in the boonies, it is more common for the YM to be volunteer.

I'm suddenly very glad to be covered by the NHS. In the US I had Aetna through my job, and was with Blue Cross/Blue Shield before that. But I don't remember all the info.
