Socrates
sheesh. I never advocated that she be buddy buddy with him, but rather that she deal with her own issues first. And that she not simply throw him away as worthless. He's still a human being made in the image and likeness of God. Writing people off is the easy way out. We're called to treat each other with respect and dignity. While this dude is unwilling to engage in relationship at this point, he's still a human being and should be treated with respect.
If some guy treated a female friend of mine in a similar way, I would have no hesitancy about beating the creep to a bloody pulp if he did not publicly renounce his slanders. And yes, I think that would be respect and dignity. It would respect his soul more than to allow him to continue to get away with a pattern of lies and malicious manipulation. The trouble is that such types (unless they have a true radical conversion) cannot be trusted, so further attempts at reconciliation and restoring harmony will do more harm than good. I think it would be better for her simply to avoid this character. No further good will result from her interaction with him. Having a third party put the fear of God into him may be the best bet if he keeps spreading slander. Slimey types like this generally can't be reasoned with, and they will use attempts to "restore peace and harmonious relations" to their own advantage. Such people, if they must be dealt with at all, must be dealt with firmly and harshly.

Theoketos
Socrates is asinine sometimes, forgive him he can be reconciled... ...but in all seriousness you might be able to be friends, I mean really friends in a virtuous way, but not when such wound are fresh. You both need to grow a little first. My prayers are with you.

No, you shouldn't seek revenge or anything, but until he publicly renounces his lies against you, you're best off avoiding any personal involvement with him. Pray for him, yes, but if this guy is want he sounds like, he is pure poison, and you should not have any relationship with him ("romantic" or otherwise). I'm surprised to describe myself in that way, but yet there it is. There is always hope, even when things seem darkest, for healing to occur. MIKolbe
Except for the 'asinine' comment, i agree with Socrates. (i do not know Theoketos' mom, so i cannot comment one way or the other) And i do not think it has anything to do with looking at human nature optomistically...it has to do with looking at it realistically. He means you harm. Pray for him, but stay away. If he wishes to be reconciled and forgiven, perhaps that would be another topic entirely. But, he doesn't. Apotheoun
It is important that one not confuse human nature, which is good because God created it so, with the personal actions of an individual, which can be either good or evil. Thus, as I said before, forgive the man, and pray for him, but -- for your own well being and safety -- have nothing more to do with him.
