Paladin D
[size=6][color="#FF0000"][b]PLEASE READ BEFORE POSTING![/b][/color][/size] There have been a few threads in the past that have dealt with this, but thought it would be good if we started a fresh one. To prevent this topic from becoming disorganized and also dial-up friendly for many of our fellow Phatmassers, I ask that you refrain from using the [b]IMG[/b] tag, and instead use either a direct link to the image or album that holds the image by using the [b]URL[/b] tag. An exemption is if the image itself is that of a thumbnail size, or a preview of a series of images. Suggested example: [b]Parish: [i]St. John Cantius[/i] Location: [i]Philadelphia, PA (Bridesburg)[/i][/b] [url="http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v706/PaladinD/Catholic%20Churches/100_9593.jpg"]- Interior 1[/url] [url="http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v706/PaladinD/Catholic%20Churches/100_9595.jpg"]- Interior 2[/url] [url="http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v706/PaladinD/Catholic%20Churches/100_9591.jpg"]- Exterior 1[/url] [url="http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v706/PaladinD/Catholic%20Churches/100_9592.jpg"]- Exterior 2[/url] [url="http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v706/PaladinD/Catholic%20Churches/100_9582.jpg"]- Exterior 3[/url] [url="http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v706/PaladinD/Catholic%20Churches/100_9583.jpg"]- Exterior 4[/url] Start posting away! Farsight one
I do not have pictures of churches off the top of my head, but it is interesting that this subject would come up for two reason. 1. I have had the urge recently to drive around town snapping photos of random churches. I'm talking all sorts of churches. From the mega-church to the smallest chapel. 2. I'm looking for pictures of the hamburger church that used to be in Wichita, KS. If you don't know what I'm talking about, then you don't have a picture, and if you do, then you're probably laughing right now. I so hope someone has a photo of that place... p.s. - I think I might have gone to mass at that first church once. The one in PA. From the mega-church to the smallest chapel.[/quote] Sounds like a cool idea, I've actually started doing the samething actually (only of Catholic churches). Many times I take my camera everywhere I go just incase I spot something interesting, I always wind up taking at least a couple photos. Though I didn't take pics of the Cathedral in Wilmington, DE, they're from the parish's official website. Unfortunately, I haven't had the pleasure of seeing it in person (yet). [quote]p.s. - I think I might have gone to mass at that first church once. The one in PA.[/quote] Do you live near Philly? The Church is on [b]Almond St.[/b] in the Bridesburg neighborhood. [b]All Saints[/b] (another Catholic parish) is down the street from it. St. John Cantius is historically a Polish church, so they also have a number of Masses in Polish only. While All Saints is historically where the German/Irish would go.
Paladin D
I take it that no one goes to Mass? Or knows of any Catholic parishes?
Innocent
[url="http://www.vailankannichurch.org/"][color="#FF0000"]The Church of Our Lady of Health, Velankanni, Tamil Nadu, India.[/color][/url] This photograph is a rarity because of a special reason. The tabernacle, with a statue of Our Lady in the background, is not normally permitted to be photographed. A gentleman of my acquaintance gave me this photograph with a story behind it. He had been asking Our Lady's intercession for some favour, and when he and his family went to visit this church soon after, they asked the priest for permission to photograph the tabernacle, fully expecting to be refused, but to their surprise, the priest agreed. He took it as a sign of Our Lady's intercession having found favour with God. Starets
It helps when its a National Historical Site located in the national capital about 5 blocks from parliament hill. Maybe the materials that were used in the past are more expensive today? That, and/or parishoners do not give much from their incomes like they did in the past? Not to mention, hiring architects that don't really care about sacredness. Who knows. Edited September 21, 2007 by Paladin D
