It's seems to me if a woman this woman went through so much trama with one priest she would not of opened up her legs for 6 more...
and as one commentator put it on the blog:
And once a young person has been duped into a relationship with one, and made by that one to feel that somehow they asked for it, how are they going to back out and complain to authorities when pressured by another, without explaining the first to the authorities? It can snowball, and has in other cases. To the young abused person with shame and conflicts, it can appear to be almost blackmail and they can be confounded on how to resist further attacks from the same man or his colleagues pressuring them for sex.
Justin86 Posted December 8, 2007 Posted December 8, 2007 Should we also necessarily believe the nun who plead "no contest" to the charges that she had sex with teenage boys who were her students? Not saying she didn't do it, but I'm just saying would you automatically believe that? And do you really think that every single case in that 600 billion dollar lawsuit is legit? Also, I never said I knew she wasn't. All I did was raise questions. Psychology is a big way cops catch criminals, and while obviously it doesn't hold up in court it does assist in gathering evidence that does.
KnightofChrist Posted December 8, 2007 Posted December 8, 2007 The worse thing here is because of the wicked acts against this women she now denies God. God have mercy on her, and God have mercy on those 7 men and the people who protect there wicked acts! They will answer for their sins at the judgement. Pray dearly that woman's heart is again open to Christ Jesus!

siebersusi Posted December 8, 2007 Posted December 8, 2007
i pray nothing like this ever happens to you, and people just pass it off as "well, she just opened her legs up for six more, she deserves it."
I never said she deserved it and I have had bad things happen to me but I have never turned away from God because of them. I will pray for this woman and for the father and daughter. It was wrong for both priest to have had sex with her and it was wrong for her to have had sex with them (two years apart from each other it sounded like to me) but you can not judge anyone here for their mistakes. We should all pray for her soul now as she seems not to be trusting God at this point. The offenders may have been forgiven for their sins by the grace of God as only he can judge our hearts.
Lil Red Posted December 8, 2007 Author Posted December 8, 2007 and maybe you have stronger faith than this woman does. she does need prayers to regain her faith in God.

But what does God's word say about it? Let's take a look. 1 Timothy 5:19-20 (bold emphasis mine): To answer your question in your next post, deterrance is what civil punishment is designed for, as well as protection of society. Besides, if it involves breaking a civil law, the civil authorities have jurisdiction. It's simple common sense.
YES, BUT THEY ARE STILL PRIESTS. Yes, the civil authorities have jurisdiction, but so do the ecclesiastical. The men should be tried twice. I'm not sure if this wasn't said before. A lot was posted since I left for the evening. Oh, yeah, and want does God say about not honoring the people who He has consecrated to His work? Saul tried to get around that one with Samuel. Look where it got him. The men are priests. What do you think that means? It's a existence-changing thing. It just makes their crime all the worse. Edited December 8, 2007 by Catholictothecore
carrdero Posted December 8, 2007 Posted December 8, 2007
From the article: The payment was part of a $660 million global settlement the diocese reached collectively with past abuse victims.
Makes one wonder; WWJD with $660 million dollars.

So I know exactly what I am talking about. Six year olds are molested, sixteen year old have foreplay. Can women be raised to be powerless and totally dominated -yes. But as in the case of the "pedophilia crisis" which was really cases of homosexual relations between teenage boys and priests , this is not molestation, this was sex. Was it wrong? Of course. Does the fact that it was priests make it worse? Yep! Are there power issues involved? Absolutely. But in many states the age of consent is for sex and even marriage is well under 18 and I have also seen how seductive teenage girls turn grown men into blubbering idiots. Lumping this in with abuse cases of little kids and making the priests into monsters just clouds the issue and blinds us to the uncomfortable reality that all of us, even the consecreated are capable of great sin.

EJames2 Posted December 9, 2007 Posted December 9, 2007
Well if half of the catholic church wasnt replaced for a liberal woosified counterfeit we wouldnt be going through this. But no we just had to try to "catch up" to the times. Gay priests, abusive sexually frustrated priests, if the people in charge really knew what they were doing none of this would have happened. Instead of bringing the church into the world and teaching it, we let the world get into the church and de-form it. That's the modern mind for ya.
Amen, amen amen..

It's seems to me if a woman this woman went through so much trama with one priest she would not of opened up her legs for 6 more...
Sexual abuse isn't like that. Frequently, it changes your perception of yourself and makes you react in ways that other people can't understand. I know far too many women who were abused as children or adolescents, who keep getting themselves into abusive and dangerous situations for a variety of reasons. One of the most common is that they have learnt to detest themselves and to believe that they deserve to have this done to them. And each repeated rape is taken by the victim as a confirmation of that belief. "I must be a bad person. If I weren't, it wouldn't have happened so many times." If I had a pound coin for every time I'd heard that heartbreaking phrase, or others like it, I'd be a very rich person by now. As most rape victims actually know their assailants personally, they are vulnerable to manipulation and they are rarely in a position to assert themselves. One of my closest friends, a girl who was raped for the first time when she was eleven and who continued to endure attacks for years, was frightened of speaking out because she thought that people would assume that she was either lying or very dim-witted because she hadn't informed the police or her parents right after the first assault. But if you have been raped, logical self-protection is rarely your first response. Which is why you have rape victims who self-harm, rape victims who starve themselves, rape victims who allow themselves to be abused multiple times, rape victims who would do anything rather than tell. Trying to predict or analyse their reactions based on what you would do in that sort of situation (or, more to the point, what you think you would do) exhibits lack of compassion as well as lack of knowledge. In the two threads I remember on Phatmass that dealt with Muslim women being raped and abused in Islamic countries (one thread being quite recent) there was outrage about what had happened to these women, and some people took the opportunity to condemn the standards of justice in Islamic countries. Nobody questioned whether those women were telling the truth. But when a Catholic priest gets accused of similar crimes, it's automatically a different matter. Catholic priest? Seven Catholic priests? Um...maybe they did do it, or maybe the woman's just slutty, but let's not speculate or judge because we can't know for sure and Christ is the supreme judge anyway. Shhhh. Why are we so keen to see evil everywhere but in our own homes? I will continue to call these priests 'father', because that is who they are to me. Not even the worst sin can destroy our relationships with one another. If it could, the Church would be in pieces by now. I will pray for these priests. I know that they are basically good, because all people are, and I will make that goodness my ally in prayer. But I refuse to call the victim of their sin a liar just because the thought of my Church's leaders trying hide such behaviour makes me uncomfortable. That's pride. And I have enough pride already without encouraging it. Edited December 9, 2007 by Cathoholic Anonymous

A woman who was physically abused from a past relationship will sometimes find themselves drawn to men who are abusive. Besides having a self-worth concern, this is the only type of relationship that they know and understand. Edited December 9, 2007 by carrdero
