You don't need to be a gamer to get a PS3. I almost never play games and I found out that the PS3 is still the best choice. The PS3 is much more diverse than any player and you will never end up with an outdated player because of the regular firmware updates. As there are new features for blu-ray you'll get them instantly on your PS3. The PS3 is basically an all-in-one entertainment hub and computer. From the Internet to blu-ray. And who knows you might find a game or two you want eventually as well. Plus it is cheaper than most blu-ray players. $399 as opposed to $499-999
HD DVD and Blu-ray's DRM is the exactly the same (AACS) except Blu-ray has the optional BD+ protection, which Disney has not been using.
Words failing to find your eyes are highlighted.

It is better to be thought a fool, than to open your mouth and remove all doubt.

Thank you for removing all doubt by highlighting the inconsistencies in your own sentence. Clearly, the DRM in HD DVD and Blu-ray is not "exactly the same."

I'm going to stick with my standard DVD player. It's far cheaper, and produces a fine picture on my high def TV.

Prices will continue to go down as blu-ray replaces DVD over the next several years. Best Buy has some great deals on blu right now - $15 for catalogue titles and $25 for new releases with free tickets to Prince Caspian. I just ordered 5 movies with 2 free tickets to see prince caspian for $75.

It will take a long time though, and many people will swear by DVD just like people still swear by VHS and vynil and refuse to 'update'. When it comes down to it - its just entertainment and not that important. I'll stick with the Catholic priest though and keep rooting for HD picture and sound. :)

$15 a title. Wow. Must be lack of competition. :D

Some good news is that some people are seeing Blu-ray players showing up at Wal-Mart for $299 and $348. Given the cost of driving to the theater, the cost of a ticket, and maybe some concessions, Blu-ray is looking like a good deal. (Ok. I will make my once a year trip to theater to see and support Prince Caspian. :) )

Since catalogue SD DVD titles are $20 each after initial release week sales, I'd say that's a good sign. There are also a ton of BOGOs and B2G1s. $15 really is pretty reasonable with $35-$40 retail prices.

I agree. BD's selling $15 or less is wonderful. Great things are ahead for high def DVD. Here is a description of what's coming for Sleeping Beauty.
Using a new technology known as BD Live — which connects to the Internet — viewers will pop in the disc and get a customized version of the famed castle that serves as a backdrop for the menu. The sky will reflect weather conditions in the viewer's hometown.

Once viewers begin watching, they'll be able to chat with friends right on the movie screen, using a laptop, BlackBerry or other PDA, through Disney's protected network. They'll be able to insert customized video messages anywhere in the movie and send them to friends or family members via a "movie mail" feature.

They'll be able to play trivia games with fellow viewers across the country. And when they're done, they can get a constant supply of new trailers, plus trade in "reward" points, collected by using many of these features, for ringtones and wallpaper.

Sleeping Beauty "will revolutionize the way people will interact with and view movies in the home," says Bob Chapek, president of Walt Disney Studios Home Entertainment. "We pulled out all the stops in launching this technology."

The first sub-$300 BD players will be available this fall from Magnavox. For a media format that has hardly won a format war we've already seen a $700 drop in the average price of a player. I'm predicting blu-ray will be the standard in 3 years.

I just watched the Chronicles of Narnia on blu-ray. Holy smokes! This is the best blu-ray I have ever seen. I noticed so much more in the blu-ray version than the DVD version. So many subtle things I missed before that they put into the movie. And when Aslan came roaring out while they were fighting, holy cow, gave me chills. If you are blu, definitely pick it up.

The sub-$300 players are already here. :D But, but, prices will go up without HD DVD as a competitor. I picked up a couple of titles for $12 at Frys today. Many were for sale at $12 today.

I picked up Narnia with the free Caspian ticket. I haven't had a chance to watch it, but I look forward to it. It should look and sound fantastic.

There has been a slight jump in prices but only because they were artificially low to wipe HD-DUD off the map.

Narnia was truly incredible. It had my pastor glued to his seat the entire time and he's already seen the SD version. Also watched Flags of Our Fathers and Twister, both great on blu. Best Buy and Amazon have been offering 2 for $30 on a lot of movies, making them cheaper than their DVD counterparts. :)
