With the PS3, what cables do I need to use in order to get the full def? I have a HD TV, it goes up to 1080 p I believe.
HDMI, that does both sound and video. DON'T GO TO BEST BUY OR CIRCUIT CITY, THEY ARE OVERPRICED! They sell Monster Cables, excellent cables, but not worth it. Personally, I like them, but you don't need something like that.

Go to Amazon, Target or even Radio Shack and buy an HDMI cord, that is all you need. Also, because your HDTV is 1080p you will be able to take advantage of all that Blu Ray has to offer, beautiful picture and phenomenal sound!

Oh wait, what do you use for sound? The TV speakers or a receiver?

BTW, if you have not gotten one yet, HURRY UP, as soon as they make this announcement, good luck trying to find a PS3, still the cheapest Blu Ray player

For those of you completely confused about this "format war," here is a link to a very concise and thorough explanation of the two formats and where each stand.

AMDG :)

We rode it out Father Brian and took the right side. I choose blu because Disney backed them. Universal has just announced they will begin releasing movies in blu-ray. Now all we are waiting for is Dreamworks and Paramount.

Though Amazon will continue to stock both, they will feature, more prominently, Blu Ray

LG is also going to carry a duel-format player for the 1 million HDDVD owners who want to be able to keep their current collections and still be able to use blu-ray. Noble enough. Still waiting for Paramount and Dreamworks....I can't imagine them staying red when there will be almost no players produced for HDDVD and virtually no advertising.

Dreamworks is still HD DVD...stuck in a contract and they don't seem to have effective lawyers looks like we still have to wait for Transformers on Blu :(

Prices for HD DVD players had come down enough that I was considering purchasing one, but obviously I am not going to do that now. Needless to say, I will not buy a Blu-ray player either any time soon, because they are still way too expensive. Besides, standard DVD is fine, and looks great on my High Def TV with upconversion; so, no worries.

Maybe I will wait and buy an HVD system in a couple of years, because holographic storage is the wave of the future, and will hold about 4 terabytes of information on a single disc.

I do think that storage systems will become obsolete faster. DVD reigned for 10 years, my guess is blu-ray will reign for 8-10. An HD-DVD player is great if you want an upconverting DVD player - they will probably be your best bet and you can get one now for the price of a DVD player. It has the added bonus of playing HD-DVD's which will soon be in the $1 bin.

I really don't think upconversion does justice to HD media though. For me there is truly a big difference between and upconverted DVD and a blu-ray disc. A full 1080p disc is so much sharper and the sound is so much better.

I think we will begin to see mass adoption over the next 1-2 years and we will see players in the $149-199 range that most people will buy. The big thing will be seeing disc prices even out. They ahve gotten much higher now that the war is over and companies are trying to recoup their costs.

Speaking of which, ID4, Irobot, Ice Age, and Mr. Magorium all came out....and I only get to by one new movie a month. Sniffs.
