Apparently, he hasn't joined the Church of Scientology. I disagree with Will Smith's statement about how similar it is to the Bible; though he does have a point. Hollywood is anti-religion, and it was evident when the media attacked Tom Cruise simply because he is passionate about his beliefs. I'm not endorsing nor am I implying that Tom Cruise is a saint, but his situation reminds me of what we (as Catholics) go through. At least there are still some actors/actresses' in Hollywood that practice and are passionate about their religious beliefs.

The Church of Scientology: the biggest, ugliest blue Church to be found in Hollywood (no joke).

Obviously not paying much attention in his Baptist home or in Religion class!

Scientology is a disgusting and moronic cult/scam designed with the single purpose of extorting huge sums of money from the rich and stupid. Study up on it - it's absolutely unbelievable. It cannot be compared in any way with the Catholic Faith (unless you are a virulent atheist with an agenda).

The blatant idiocy and scamming nature of the Scientology cult are quite deserving of ridicule and scorn, and those in its clutches set thus themselves up for ridicule and scorn.
While Hollywood may be anti-religious (or more accurately anti-Christian), I don't think that's the issue here regarding Tom Cruise and Scientology. Scientology thrives in Hollyweird more than any other place (you have to be rich to afford Scientology), and bizarre neo-pagan religious fads of various sorts tend to be more popular and accepted in such circles.

"you have to be rich to afford Scientology"

Amen!

I'm always saddened when I find out another celebrity is a Scientologist. Like when I found out Beck is one. :(

Normally people use the rounded figure 90%, or if they want to indicate more accuracy, they use 99 %.

I wonder why he came up with 98%. :lol_roll:

I find the concept of Body Thetans and demon posession an interesting comparison. I know that Scientology can be classified as an "Alien Based Religion" but I can also see parallels in the possibility of aliens starting a religion during the Exodus and again in the example of Jesus who has often been described "as not of this world".

Carl Sagan, in his book The Demon Haunted World, suggests that perhaps aliens have begun to fill the mythological roles in a modern worldview oriented around space and science that angels and demons do in a worldview centered around Heaven and faith. I recall Joseph Campbell making a detailed comparison, but I can't remember which book.

Alien abductions and demon possession are of a type. And Scientology, with its belief in possessions of the soul by alien demons is an interesting blend of the two.

Also there seems to be a similiarity between Engrams and sin.

Oh yeah, that's another one that I almost forgot. The fees charged for Scientology sessions and religious tithings.

Socrates, you will have to express a little more patience. Remember, Scientology just started in the last century, give them some time.

From phrophecy iv'e heard I think its possible that the false "rapture" may come through that church.
Since it is centered around aliens and science fictioin.
If aliens do exist and if some are corrupt then they could in some way look to lead some astray who are not protected by faith in The Lord Jesus Christ.
The antichrist and his church lead even the "ellect" to be msleaded.
Will Smith is a hero to many and its evident that God has touched his life so profoundly.
Its interesting to hear hiim say that scientology is 98 % comparable to the Bible.
And it is for no wonder?? What does satan do ?? He mimics God and appears as an agel of light.
Now im not saying anything about Tom Cruz, I pray for him along with Katie (who by the way was raised catholic and attended catholic school and grew up within 70 miles of me in the good ole glass city. (toledo ohio)
But Tom could be so decieved now he doesnt even realise it.
He is very high up and i think may be believed to inherit certian powers ?
He went to seminary and boy doesnt that add to this real life compelling story.
He needs our prayers along with their new baby who wont be raised catholic.
Couldnt you see how if the church of scientolgy started preforming works and wonders (which is very possible in this day and age) how it could deceive the masses and lead them away from Christ ??
The antichrist is anyone who deny's Jesus came in the flesh.
Does this church teach Jesus came in the flesh ??

Wasn't aware of Scientology's tithing practices.

Good point.
