What would concern me is someone wearing it innocently in the mall (maybe a bad example) or around church and a little kid sees it and thinks "Wow, sex must be pretty good...what is it?" and then ask his mom prematurely.

It's not that he hasn't seen sex before, but that I don't think we should wear things about sex (even if perfectly innocent!) around little kids in any environment outside our house...

I just got it...........You are saying it is better to go to heaven than to HAVE sex. Right? I think I am a little burned out by Friday.

I was born a long long time ago, in a place called suburbia. I did not have a clue about sex, even after I got my period. I was twelve and did not know my mother was pregnant until her 8th month. I was kissed at 14 and thought the guy was just being gross so I punched him.

Of course, I knew I really really liked boys but, no idea why. (that started when I was in 4th grade) If we were watching tv as a family and a man and woman were kissing, my dad would either change the channel or tell us it was time for bed.(regardless of the time)
I guess that kids aren't that innocent anymore.

Personally, I'd buy the shirt, waiting desperately for one single social situation where wearing that shirt would be a good idea. If that time ever came, I would at that point consider the shirt to be worth the money.[/quote]

My sentiments exactly... a good t-shirt lies in waiting for the perfect opportunity to pounce.

True... guess there are a few ways you can go with it. Since I'm going through Christopher West's Theology of the Body study with a young adult group, I was thinking about the whole "sex is a participation with the love of the Trinity" thing. I see it as sex as the type representing the reality of the Trinity, like the Ark of the Covenant is the type representing Mary. So, saying Heaven is better than sex is like saying Mary is better than the Ark.

Or, you could consider the perfect Love we'll experience in Heaven far exceeds anything we can experience or even imagine in this life. It's difficult for me to wrap my head around that thought, or perhaps to trust that love is really all I want out of life and nothing more. But that's what we're aiming for.

Yeah, those awkward moments are always great. Nothing beats going to see "Titanic" with your mom and sister (not knowing the estrogen-fest this movie would be) and getting to watch Leo and Kate babymakin' in the back of a Model T. That's when I gained an appreciation for guy movies.

While I do think the shirt is otherwise okay, I do agree that this is a concern...

One could wear such a shirt to a bar and possibly such a concern would be addressed that way.

Maybe the shirt would be good for being a leader in a youth retreat. I'm sure it could be made useful for a chastity talk.

I would be an awesome one time object lesson shirt for a talk. Whether that is worth 15-20 bucks is debatable.

Wow! I guess I am so far outside the box on this one. My first thought was the shirt was just saying, "Sex is great but, heaven is better." What came after that, never occurred to me to wonder.
Do you think the young people will read as deep of a meaning into the phrase on the shirt as you do? Would they wear it in the secular world where it is not going to have that interpretation?

A sexual relationship in marriage, with the Trinity and both parties having that love of God would be a most awesome thing. Something to definitely aspire to while in this world.
I can't imagine at all what heaven is like. The love I have for God and the love he gives me here is blowing my mind. Good thing I would be dead when I got to heaven or my head would explode.

I know how you feel about those fun parts in movies. I took my very Catholic, non-drinking, non-smoking, non-swearing mother to Pulp Fiction. Oh my. Cringe city.

No, I wouldn't expect most people to have any idea about what the deeper message is, but I see it as a television tease. "Lost" does this all the time, of course. They give you just enough to keep you beggin' for more and waiting for next week's episode. That's why I like the shock value/humorous aspect... people don't expect that from a chastity shirt, and it says just enough to get the occasional person asking about what it means, and that can easily lead into a conversation about the deeper meaning. Conversation leads to establishing a relationship, and building relationships and community are the key to effective evangelism.

Amen. But I guess we agree on an age group for this shirt?

Yeah, ages 12 and under, right? :)
