catholicinsd Posted February 22, 2008 Posted February 22, 2008 There are unconfirmed reports that Sen. John McCain (R-AZ) the front-runner for the Republican Presidential Nomination had an extra-matrial affair with a Washington lobbyist in the 1990's- about the same time President Clinton was being impeached for the same thing. If true the Senator would have cheated on his wife- Mrs. Cindy Hensley McCain, who is 18 years his junior. The Senator and his current wife had an affair while he was was still married to his first wife the former Carol Shepp. They married only one month after the first McCain marriage was unofficially divorced. Dismas Posted February 22, 2008 Posted February 22, 2008 The divorce and remarriage is scandalous to practicing Catholics, who are taught the full revealed truth, and understand the sacramental nature of marriage. Even so, he is Protestant (Presbyterian?) and they tend not to care so much, and isn't the first divorced and remarried presidential candidate. Even so, it is morally wrong. As for the romancing of the lobbyist, I find it to be beneath journalistic integrity, even for a gossip tabloid like the Times. No named sources or evidence? I wouldn't publish it myself it was Bill Clinton and a lobbyist, as tempted as I would be. In closing, John McCain is no longer "the lovable maverick" of the MSM, and is now simply "the enemy", thanks to his becoming the presumed Republican Nominee. It's a hit piece based on fluff, and as far as I gather, not worthy of our own Lame Board. Please note: I would gladly buy John McCain a drink for his military service, and I'll defend him against libelous attacks, but I'm not voting for him.

However both the Senator and the current Mrs. McCain have admitted their romance while he was still married to his first wife.

It's not an opinion as to whether the alleged affair happened or not. The article was clearly a smear campaign instigated by a disgruntled former employee with an axe to grind (even the Times admits this). The facts merely do not check out. This is why other, more journalistic, papers rejected publishing similar stories.
Ash Wednesday Posted February 22, 2008 Posted February 22, 2008 I wasn't even going to take the bait and respond, because it's really a non-story and a non-issue as far as I'm concerned.
Justin86 Posted February 22, 2008 Posted February 22, 2008 Yeah this story is lame. John McCain did not lie under oath about having an extra-martial affair. Bill Clinton did. One is legal, the other is not. End of story. While it certainly doesn't raise my opinion of the dirtbag, extra-martial affairs have nothing to do with his ability to be President nonetheless.

Notice they have no credible sources or documents or even firm allegations. They waited until the day after he was declared the candidate, ran it, and have been roundly condemned by everybody. Ash Wednesday Posted February 23, 2008 Posted February 23, 2008 LOL. McCain received record amounts of funding online in the 24 hours following the article, not to mention conservatives jumping to his defense against the New York Times (who were "surprised" by people's reactions). Talk about a shared enemy suddenly making someone your friend.
Mercy me Posted February 23, 2008 Posted February 23, 2008 Really? I had not heard that his fund raising had increased. That is interesting.

Mr McCain's has been married for 28 years to his second wife, who was the wealthy daughter of a beer distributor. He is presbyterian whose church does recognize divorce.
