Were there spoilers in the dream?

about the public persona of Bruce Wayne---what about Alfred on that boat!? thankfully though there was a little restraint throughout (there was nothing like that pre-conversion scene in Ironman)
i thought Batman seemed almost heartless, unlike Batman in Begins...probably part of that maturing process?
oh my gosh.. that was insane. I am now obsessed with the whole Heath Ledger incident post Dark Knight.. I can't see how anyone could become the individual he became and still remain completely stable..

My mom said she'll never look at Heath (or "Keith") the same way again. She's always had a little crush on him.

I thought the lead up to the end was great, especially the scene with the Joker dangling from the side of the building, taunting Batman for choosing justice over vengeance. But the very end didn't leave me in expectation. At least Batman Begins ended with the Joker card. What are we left to wait for after The Dark Knight? We already saw Bruce Wayne battle his inner demons in Batman Begins, which was one of the reasons why I liked that movie, and we saw him mature into Batman in The Dark Knight, and face the most evil character possible. What is next?

From what Mr. Nolan's said, he doesn't really seem to have a sequel planned at this point (though he has not said definitively one way or the other whether he'd direct one). From what he's said, he seems to have made The Dark Knight as a complete work in itself, rather than as a middle chapter in a trilogy.
The fact that there's no "teaser" ending here doesn't make it a bad ending. I liked Gordon's speech at the end, though I was surprised that
it ended with him "officially" opposing Batman, when he is generally the character who gives Batman public "legitimacy."

Yes, I understand the purpose of that aspect of his character, but does that make it moral? I agree that it is not something unique to The Dark Knight. It is something which I have a problem with in a lot of movies, how plots are sometimes based on lies and similar choices which would be immoral in real life. I guess the question is whether there is a moral suspension of disbelief to a certain extent in movies and literature? I'm not sure. I went to see the movie with people who are not religious, so that is part of the reason why it bothers me, because I feel like I need to explain to them why those aspects of the movie would be morally wrong in the real world. It may be obvious to me, as a Christian, but others might conclude that those aspects of the movie are perfectly moral, even in real life.
Why so SERIOUS?

I think quite a bit of suspension of disbelief is in order when watching a Batman movie, even one as "realistic" as The Dark Knight.
Obviously, living the kind of hedonistic lifestyle Bruce appears to would not be moral in real life, though I think it's left ambiguous as to whether Bruce is actually living a sexually promiscuous life or how much the babes and such are merely "props" to his act. (In Frank Miller's take, Bruce is apparently even a closet teetotaler, secretly substituting seltzer water for champagne.) After all, Bruce's job as the Batman would leave little time for a nightlife.

And Batman, while a hero, is not intended to be a morally flawless character, often walking a moral fine line in his crusade. He's the Dark Knight, not St. Bruce of Gotham.

I wouldn't go so far as to call him heartless, though I think this is deliberate. The idea is that Bruce is settling more and more into his role as the Dark Knight, and it is becoming clear that he is gradually having everything stripped from him that would allow him to lead "a normal life." He becomes more and more an avenging creature of justice, and loses something of his humanity in the process.

JM + JT

Saw it twice last nite - went with the family and saw my friends arrive after and decided to stay.

Very cool - loved Ledger's performance, by far the best Joker - though I'm still confused about a lot of things. I should probably watch the prequel again and finish it this time. Maybe it'll help clear things up that watching DK more than once cannot.

I just wish they could've wrapped things up nicer with the Joker. It's obvious they didn't foresee Ledger's death (who could have?). :(

I'd love to see the Riddler! :D Besides the Joker he's my favorite.

My ideas for "realistic" depictions of future Batman villains:

Riddler- cyberterrorist
Poison Ivy- radical environmentalist using biological weapons to attack Gothan
Penguin- uber-business mogul poisoning Gotham's economy with his greedy ways
Mad Hatter- crazy little circus freak

White Knight

There is always a possibilty they could bring back the side villian from Batman Begins, to conclude that storyline.
