Didymus
From what Mr. Nolan's said, he doesn't really seem to have a sequel planned at this point (though he has not said definitively one way or the other whether he'd direct one). From what he's said, he seems to have made The Dark Knight as a complete work in itself, rather than as a middle chapter in a trilogy. The fact that there's no "teaser" ending here doesn't make it a bad ending. I liked Gordon's speech at the end, though I was surprised that
it ended with him "officially" opposing Batman, when he is generally the character who gives Batman public "legitimacy."

yeah, especially when he mentions that Batman is running so that they can chase him.
I felt almost like I could have expected another hour to the movie at least.

There are many possibilities for the next installment.

jenn91988
I loved the movie. Heath did an awesome job, and I'm not just saying that because of what happened. Egad, I can't wait to see it again some time.

So it makes sense that he's still alive. Is it undisputed that twoface's death was a coverup? They didn't really make it clear at the end of Dark Knight. He seemed dead, but I guess that would make him a very short lived criminal.
Pontifite 7 of 10
It depends...will Christifer Nolan stay on? Christan Bail? Will it be a good movie? We won't know until it comes out. I'm leaning toward a Pirates 3 type of thing. But We won't know until it comes.
Socrates
Scarecrow didn't die in Batman Begins, and is in the beginning of The Dark Knight, hes barely in there, They could bring him back, also twoface's death was a coverup since hes still alive. There are many possibilities for the next installment.
Harvey Dent was dead at the end of the movie. It's unlikely he's coming back (at least not as long as Nolan's running the show). In the word's of Batman-on-film's Jett (Bill Ramey):
3. “Jett, did Two Face really die? Do you think Gordon and Batman hid him? Maybe he's at Arkham?” JETT SAYS: Harvey died. End of story on that one. Frankly, I think it would be a little cheap for him to return in the next one. TDK story arc was Harvey’s and he died at the end because of his own actions.
http://www.batman-on-film.com/mailbag_TDK-...el_7-21-08.html Having Scarecrow come back yet again would be a bit redundant, and unlikely, as there's enough other Batman villains that have not been touched. I don't think he was that great of a villain anyway (at least not worth 3 consecutive movies). Unfortunately, I think about everything will pale after Heath Ledger's Joker. While Chris Nolan hasn't said whether he'll direct another, storyman David Goyer has said they have a basic outline and a villain if Nolan decides to go through with it, though they refuse to say who it is. Like others, I think the Riddler would we a good fit for Nolan's movies (sans the gay costumes, silly giggling, red flattops, etc.), however something tells me these guys have something unexpected up their sleeves. DemonSlayer
I'd definitely like to see Two-Face again in a future sequel, but I never liked Nolan's version of Scarecrow.
kafka
Now that everyone is in Batheaven here is a fun theoretical question. Let's say Nolan decided to bring back the Joker in the next sequel. Which actor would best replace the late and great Heath Ledger as the best possible Joker???

They could've thrown him in Arkham quietly and allowed him to be martyred in public. How cool would it be if he broke out of Arkham and upturned the system that claimed he was dead? An interesting discussion of the morality of lying could be had: is it okay to lie when it's in the "best interest" of a group of people?

I dunno if he's got the acting skills, but he sure as heck looks like Ledger, IMHO.
