I cannot ignore the Right Wing comment...Basically he is whining because he is not getting his way. I would be hard pressed to call WYD right wing, especially considering where I stand on the liturgy, though for sure it does inspire orthodox and authentic yearning for Christ.
Hey you pham~

I do not mean to be a stickler here, but I just wanted to bring a point.
Even though a lot of people are upset about this situation about this priest, please, do not talk bad or critisize him.
Here is the reason why...

Criticism of Priests
Our Lord's revelations to Mutter Vogel (Mother Vogel)

"One should NEVER attack a priest, even when he's in error. Rather, one should pray and do penance that I'll grant him My grace again. He alone fully represents Me, even when he doesn't live after My example! (pg. 29, Mutter Vogel's Worldwide Love, St. Grignion Publishing House, Altoting, South Germany, June 29, 1929)

"When a priest falls, we should extend him a helping hand THROUGH PRAYER AND NOT THROUGH ATTACKS! I Myself will be his judge, NO ONE BUT I! Whoever voices judgment over a priest has voiced it over Me; child, never let a priest be attacked; take up his defense." (Feast of Christ the King, 1937).

"Child, never judge your confessor; rather pray much for him and offer every Thursday, though the hands of My blessed Mother, Holy Communion (for him)." (June 26th, 1939

"Never again accept an out-of-the-way word aobut a priest and speak no unkind word (about them) EVEN IF IT WHERE TRUE! Every priest is My Vicar and My Heart will be sickened and insulted because of it! If you hear a judgment (against a priest) pray a Hail Mary." (June 28, 1939)

"If you see a priest who celebrates the Holy Mass unworthily, then say nothing about him; rather, tell it to Me alone! I stand beside Him on the altar! Oh pray much for my priests; that they'll love purity above all; that they will celebrate the Holy Sacrifice of the Mass with pure hands and heart. Certainly, the Holy Sacrifice is one and the same even when it's celebrated by an unworthy priest, but the grace called down upon the people is not the same!" (Feb. 28, 1938).

(I found this is The Pieta Pray Book I own)

Please, take this into consideration. Jesus get so very hurt and sad that we even say the tiniest little thing. Not just with this thread, but, when you are talking with your friends, aquaintances, or anyone, stand up for our priests, pray for them.

"Most Sacred Heart of Jesus, Have Mercy On Us!"

I agree... never attack a priest, but can we not criticize his comments or actions when he is in error?

The point is, do not criticize priests...in everything.

Jesus will be very :madder: and

ok.... not criticizing the person- but actions.....words?

Not even what the priests says or the priests actions.

I disagree.

and trust me... I'm a big believer in 'every priest is another Christ'

but I think everyone's actions and words can be judged- especially when dealing with a priest who may be teaching falsehood

It is one thing to criticize, another to correct.

Assume with charity whatever the error is truly an oversight and respond with such charity, even in correction.

ok correct...but can that be done remotely...like on phatmass

In a remote way, yes. But, it can be taken overboard and become nothing but gossip and speculation.
A CATHOLIC priest has said the money being spent on World Youth Day is an embarrassment and a scandal.

Father Peter Confeggi, a parish priest at Mount Druitt, said there was also a "large amount of dissatisfaction" with the spirituality that will be taught during the event, with many fearing it would be a right-wing brand of Catholicism.
The "right-wing brand of Catholicism" remark should tell you enough right there about this priest's agenda. It's commonplace for liberal dissidents to gripe about money being spent on liturgical vessels, etc. "which could feed the poor."

"Right-wing brand of Catholicism" means, like, that "brand" of Catholicism which is actually loyal to the Magisterium, and practiced and taught by the Pope, as opposed to the hippie-dippy do-your-own-thing peace & luv "brand."
I think someone referenced this already, but yet again

"a woman came up to him with an alabaster jar of costly perfumed oil, and poured it on his head while he was reclining at table. When the disciples saw this they were indignant and said, 'why this waste? It could have been sold for much, and the money given to the poor.' Since Jesus knew this, he said to them, "Why do you make trouble for the woman? She has done a good thing for me. The poor you will always have with you; but you will not always have me. In pouring this perfumed oil upon my body, she did it to prepare me for burial."
-Matthew 26:6-12

The Mass makes the sacrifice of the cross present. We are also in charge of reverencing Christ's body and blood.
Now that is an interesting point. While I don't think that the gift of the chalice was bad (in fact I think it was very good), doing something in honor of the Holy Father might be pretty cool, too. However, I still think that to recognize the fact that he is visiting Australia something should be given to him, as well.

"Whoever receives you receives me, and whoever receives me receives teh one who sent me. Whoever receives a prophet because he is a prophet will receive a prophet's reward, and whoever receives a righteous man because he is righteous will receive a righteous man's reward. And whoever gives only a cup of cold water to one of these little ones to drink because he is a disciple- amen, I say to you he will surely not lose his reward."
First of all, the reference to the widow in the temple does not exactly work here. You do not know if the money for the chalice was from surplus or from lack. Also, correct me if I'm wrong, but Jesus does not condemn the people who give from their surplus. He just says that the widow's is a greater sacrifice. That's what I remember, anyway. I'll look it up.
Agreed.

Also read Exodus and 1 Kings concerning the Ark of the Covenant and Priestly garments, etc., and the building of the Temple respectively. God demands the Israelites give of their finest to use in the Worship of Him - not because God is impressed with material wealth, but because this is a sign of the people giving their very best and richest up to the glory and honor of God.

The common charge about gold and jewels, etc. being able to be sold to give money to the poor is actually bogus.
Sure, they could be sold, and food bought for the poor, but after that, what happens, the money and food is gone, and the poor continue being poor (and the Church has lost a treasure for the glory of God). There are more productive ways of helping the poor, than just selling stuff.

I've been to WYD (in Toronto) and can tell you that it was probably among the most enriching experiences of my life. The mysticality (is this a word?) of being united with the Pope, our shepherd on earth, has been profoundly uplifting to my faith.

Not a waste...

Most people in Australia are just angry about the use of taxpayers' money for a religious event referred to as a cultural event. One example that they would use is that the goverment wouldn't fund something else such as a Muslim gathering.

So when they molest children, they shouldn't be sent to jail either?

Please, I don't care about some revelations that may or may not be true. If someone is in error, they should be criticized. There is a proper way to do that. I have only the utmost respect for priests--more so than I do for anyone else--but they are not angels. They are humans just like us. The reason that so many of them got away with abusing children decades ago is because Catholics were stuck in this old-fashioned mindset that priests are beyond reproach. Whatever Father said or did was right and not to be questioned. Not even when Father came to dinner on numerous occasions and afterwards always wanted to go upstairs and tuck little Johnny into bed (true story). It had to be okay, right? Because it was a priest? Many children suffered during those days because no one would question a priest. I don't have any patience for this.
POPE Benedict XVI will leave Sydney with some serious bling after his World Youth Day visit.

Society jeweller Nic Cerrone and a team of his staff have for months been engaged in top-secret work - to create three commemorative pieces for the Pontiff, who arrives in Australia in July.

Rumours have circulated Sydney's Italian community that the pieces - a chalice, Communion plate and vessel to hold Communion hosts - are valued at more than $1 million.

Yesterday Mr Cerrone scoffed at the figure, but refused to give another one.

Church sources said the amount was about $120,000, with Mr Cerrone paying half and a private benefactor chipping in with the balance.

The A-list jeweller - fresh from creating a huge engagement ring for model Lara Bingle, who is set to wed Australian cricketer Michael Clarke - said he approached the Catholic Church two years ago with the offer of a papal gift.

He thought a large, jewel-encrusted crucifix would be ideal but after talks with church leaders, including Sydney Archbishop George Pell, he settled on the three pieces. They will be loaded with precious Australian metals and jewels, including rose, yellow and white gold and cognac and Argyle diamonds.

Mr Cerrone said the pieces represented the pinnacle of his career.

"I am in this country because of the Catholic Church," he said. "I was born in a small village in Italy and when my father wished to leave to make a better life for his family the church helped them to this country.

"We could have ended up in America, Brazil, Argentina or South Africa. Instead, we joined the Italian community in Australia and prospered.

"I wanted to celebrate that journey and make some very major pieces which celebrate this country. The pieces are very ornate with maple leaf and rose gold and the jewels from this country."

The Pope is expected to use the pieces for the closing Mass and vigil at Randwick Racecourse on July 20.

It sounds like a very heartfelt gift.

Two things here:

1: Since the city of Sydney is hosting the Pope who is technically a government leader, they SHOULD pay for some of it. Otherwise, they could have refused to be host.

2: Sydney is going to make MILLIONS and MILLIONS of dollars from this event. It will be a massive dose of stimulus to the local economy. The city will more than recoup whatever money the taxpayers' are spending. They should actually be grateful. Frankly, they should shut up and be grateful.

There isn't a single Muslim group on this planet that has shown itself to be useful to anyone outside of Muslims themselves. Can anyone here name one?

I did not like the right-wing agenda remark but I do think that for you to make a comment that his remark should tell you enough about this priest's agenda and to label him a liberal dissident only shows an incredible lack of charity on your part. You assume he is not loyal to the magisterium?
You are talking about a priest. A priest that you do not know, have never met and yet you so quickly denounce him and make a judgement about a man who was called by God to serve his children.
You have no idea what his life is like, the pains or sorrows he has experienced in his parish. The number of homeless, drug addicted, wounded or dying people he ministers to. You have no idea of what type of ministries he is trying to keep going and on what kind of a budget.
Maybe you should leave your pat, standard, trash everyone as a culture of death liberal remarks off of priests. Do your really think you are being loyal to the Church or to Jesus Christ when you trash his chosen ones?

I will pray for you Socrates.
