I think it's hard to answer if the choices are only one word answers that can overlap with each other. It is hard to pick between something between evolutionist and creationist, because it is hard to know what is meant by those terms. When I hear the word Creationism, I think of a kind of Protestantish, the earth is only 6,000 years old kind of thing, but I know you could also use the term to mean someone who simply believes that God created the earth. So it is hard to put oneself in one category.

Personally, I think that religion and science don't have much to do with each other. When I learn about evolution, I think that I am just learning history/science and no where does it imply that God wasn't the cause of it. Of course I believe that God created the earth and the Adam and Eve were real people, but I don't think that means, that Creation didn't imclude a complex system of gradual change otherwise know as evolution.

Perhaps it is just because I am a science fiction nut, but I think studying evolution is pretty cool. It has no effect on my belief that God was the cause of it. Same as God is the cause of everything else that happens.

But why is it so weird that Catholics are creationists, I thought you guys were the ones with the most literal interpretations???

[quote name='Chrysologus' date='Jul 4 2003, 04:24 PM']Yay, I'm not alone! I see that God Conquers and jasJis are also "evolutionists," although, to me, as a word that's still implies Darwinism, which is a philosophy which I'm sure all three of us reject. I'd rather just say that I accept the scientific theory of evolution because the scientific experts say that it's true, and I like to leave science to them so that they'll leave religion to the theologians. Unfortunately, it's rarely the case on either side.

how does intelligent design factor into this debate?

and did any of you see the movie "Galileo's Sons?" It's about a group of astrophysisits working for the Vatican. It was a good movie.

Well there's different types of Evolution first off

Macro - branching pattern of evolution whereby an ancestral taxon diverges over time and appear. This type of Evolution is the one that Creationists won't accept.

Micro - is the evolution on the species level rather than saying that everything came from a single species. This would be like adaptation to a certain climate over time. Just a simple change in DNA over time within the species itself.

Also lol Micro doesn't say humans come from Apes

a taxon has to do with Taxonomy in which scientists used to group living things together.

What an ancestral taxon means is that everything came from one single taxon and it just started branching off into different living things.

in laymans terms sodium does have an effect on your cholesterol. And yes........greasy foods do to. Chewing tobacco increases your chance for a heart attack.......not to mention the various gum diseases followed by tooth loss as well.

Up until recently, I was a theistic evolutionist, then I was something else entirely, and now I'm a creationist, although I still don't see any Biblical necessity to see it as literally the way it happened in terms of time. I think it could be a categorical separation.

I believe in micro-evolution.

[quote name='BullnaChinaShop' date='Jul 10 2003, 11:08 AM']I guess I have a hard time seeing why people get all spooled up about the debate between creationist and evolutionist.  I agree with a couple of people who have posted here that all that matters is that God is responsible for the existance of everything no matter how he chose to do it.  Since he can do anything he wants then it would be no easier or harder for him to evolve life over time and give humans a soul when he was ready than to create them all at once.

Here's an interesting quote from an atheist that sheds some light on the above:

"Christianity has fought, still fights, and will fight science to the desperate end over evolution, because evolution destroys utterly and finally the very reason Jesus' earthly life was supposedly made necessary. Destroy Adam and Eve and the original sin, and in the rubble you will find the sorry remain of the son of God. If Jesus was not the redeemer who died for our sins, and this is what evolution means, then Christianity is nothing."-- atheist, Richard Bozarth

Don't lump us all into one! I am a young-earth creationist, but I never debate it. It is a matter of speculation in the eyes of the Church; I don't force it on other people, nor would I ever discuss it in bringing someone into Christianity.
