Hi I am new here. I actually wanted to post something in the vocations folder because there is a topic about the Poor Clares in Los Altos Hills. I was there for 4.5 years but they told me it was not my vocation, I am now the mother of 3 beautiful children, married to a wonderful for over 8 years. I entered when I was 18 and I wanted to comment on the post in the vocations folder, but I can't post there. I actually know sister Bernadette who is in the website posted, she is no longer with the Poor clares also but we were in the novitiate together. If anyone wants to learn more about them please email me. To be clear, as a devout Catholic I can not recommend this order in good faith. Some thing were going on at that particular monestary when I was there, that I think people need to look carefully at before they enter. If anyone wants more information please feel free to email me.

The reason newbies can't post there is so we can see if someone is coming here to vent a grudge against a particular order or not. Problems with a particular order should be reported to that order's heirarchy, not spread around on various websites, so I glad whatever you want to discuss will be via mail and not here.

Oh, okay that makes sence. I don't post online much anymore (I have 3 kids!!!!) so I don't have much time. I doubt I will have time to get to that many posts, oh those years in college where I could post that many posts in one day!!

The Poor Clare order is great btw! I have no complaints about Poor Clares but I would be happy to discuss my experience with that particular monestary if anyone wants to email me. I wish I had found someone who was willing to discuss it with me before I entered. I think before entering you should (obviously) talk to the monestary but also have a frank talk with people who are not there anymore. They may give you some insights that can help you.

For one I wish I had talked to someone who left and found they had a vocation to marriage. Maybe I would have found my vocation sooner! Or maybe not, I think being with the Poor Clares helped me find my wonderful husband, if I was not there maybe my life wouldn't be as happy and blessed as it is today.

Anyone interested feel free to email me, I don't get on boards much, my kids rarely give me a quiet moment these days!

+Praised be Jesus Christ!

Yes, it is a good thing to want to speak members privately. Every person has their own experience and some end up having very strong feelings, especially if they were asked to leave. I think it is very kind you are willing to share your own story privately especially in the event if things are not as they should be. Important information for our girls, especially since this particular order has a low age requirement.

Information is always important; keep an open mind and be able to think critically! That doesn't mean "be angry" or "be critical" - it just means --- use your God given gift of thinking! Learn, be open, and listen...then decide!

In your spare time(!), you may wish to join the Catholic Answers Forum, which is huge, with a large Vocations section under the Catholic Living section . It's at http://forums.catholic.com (no www.). There are a lot of people looking at vocations there. You can feel free to post your impressions on that site. The size of this forum makes it a bit more anonymous that phatmass, tho' there's a lot of crossover between the two groups.

I personally think that former members' "exit interviews" can be very worthwhile. Interested persons can take their personal impressions with a grain of salt, if need be.
