Lil Red Posted January 1, 2009 Posted January 1, 2009 +J.M.J.+ title says it all. what book do you recommend by josef pieper?
Innocent Posted January 1, 2009 Posted January 1, 2009 (edited) I personally love his book on the Cardinal Virtues. You can download a public domain scanned & digitised copy of this book from the Internet Archive: The Four Cardinal Virtues Fr. Schall highly recommends his book on Leisure. ( 1, 2) I have also seen this highly recommended as among Pieper's best books (and as a book that is sure to change the outlook of anyone who reads it) by many bloggers who are well read in Pieper. (Jeff Vehige, for example.) You can download a public domain scanned & digitised copy of this book from the Internet Archive: Leisure, The Basis of Culture I got to know of Pieper through Fr. Schall's articles. You might find more recommendations on Pieper from those articles. Edited January 1, 2009 by Innocent
phatcatholic Posted January 2, 2009 Posted January 2, 2009 I've read both The Four Cardinal Virtues and Leisure, The Basis of Culture and highly recommend both of them. Those are the must reads when it comes to Pieper.
Thy Geekdom Come Posted January 9, 2009 Posted January 9, 2009 I was supposed to read Leisure for a philosophy class...I got what I needed to learn from the lecture, so I never read it, but I do know it's good.
Lil Red Posted January 9, 2009 Author Posted January 9, 2009 +J.M.J.+ thanks everyone. i bought "Abuse of Language Abuse of Power" and it's a little tough to get through.
Brother Adam Posted January 12, 2009 Posted January 12, 2009 I've read that book and his defense of philosophy. Excellent, but very meaty, stuff.
