St. Augustine Rejected Sola Fide

In the New Testament the word faith is mentioned 273 times. Why didn't anyone think to put it with the word alone. Oh wait, one did. James. And he said we are NOT justified by faith alone. James 2:24. Don't give me a long oration on James 2:24. I want to know why Paul and the other writers didn't take one of the many opportunities to clear the question up if we are in fact justified by faith alone? Looking forward to your reply.
