If a foreign government waterboards an American POW, and if (as you argue) it is not an act of violence, and not an act of torture, then what is it?

Waterboarding is violent, sorry.

No, it isn't.

Have you ever been waterboarded?

Pouring water into someone's throat is an inherently violent act.

Actually I was waterboarded when I was captured by rogue kitties.

In all seriousness, I really believe that waterboarding is not something to be used by civilized society.

My son had to be gassed in boot camp. It wasn't his favorite part, but he sure learned to put his gas mask on quickly.

If we want countries to adhere to the Geneva Convention when it comes to our POW's, then we probably ought to follow it too. I wouldn't want to be water boarded. I have a fear of drowning. Most people probably do to some extent.

If we are willing to say that it is the lesser of two evils, to save lives, then does that mean we have to be okay with contraception to lessen the greater evil of abortion, or using embryonic stem cells as a lessor evil to trying to treat things like Parkinson's. Where do we draw the lines?

Seriously, you cannot compare waterboarding to contraception.

Yeah, you're probably right when it comes to the worst "lesser of two evils." Waterboarding is much worse. Contraception hurts the person who engages in it. Waterboarding hurts another person violently.

Are you volunteering to try it to prove your point?

No. Contraception using the pill leaves you open to killing a child as well as harming yourself.

Unless someone wants to be waterboarded, it is violence. I don't think people are just laying down and letting it happen. It involves restraint. It's violence.

I was wondering how long it would take for the first reference to abortion to be made.

Do we know this guy's stance on abortion?
why does the mere mention of abortion upset you?
