Archaeology cat
My ds is still sits on a booster and he's ten. He's nowhere near tall enough to wear the shoulder belt properly.
I can understand that, then. And of course, the booster seats now are better, and more comfortable, than what I had growing up, too.
picchick
DCFS? They are a danger to many children. I've met a few people who work for them, they're delusional and convict people wrongly.
Let me clarify a few things that was unclear in my post. I am not a fan of DCFS AT ALL. I was homeschooled, family is still homeschooled and they are a threat that hangs over our heads everyday. I know that they wrongly convict. I also never said to call DCFS. I said that they can be called on negligance cases. Failing to secure your child in a seat belt or car seat WITH is negligant but I do not think that it is a cause to call DCFS. The point I was trying to make is that it IS a seirous problem that should not be taken lightly
It wasn't until shortly after you were born that child seats became law in most states... When I was a child, it wasn't the law... what do you think people did back then? They made their kids sit still in the car with a seat belt on... and the majority of us did.
now we are breaking the argument apart, which is my fault. I am speaking of securing chilcren, car seat or not. Kids need to be buckled. However I will add that the child seat safety laws were put into affect to decrease the amount of dead among children in motor vehicle accidents. Perhaps there was a great many children in your generation who died from motor vehicle accidents or some accident involving the seat belt. There are reasons that some laws are put into place. It is a good idea to follow those laws.
A child not in a car seat is not a reason to call DCFS. To accuse a parent of neglect over a child not being in a car seat to where some DCFS agent takes them away and gives them to some stranger is uncharitable and not taking the child's well being into consideration whatsoever. For all anyone knows it could be a one time trip without a car seat... and if it's an everyday thing, then a cop will see it eventually. I'm sure a small car with four adults and a kid in a car seat on the floor is probably a one time event. Most cops I know will pull someone over for seeing a kid out of a seat, and they give a ticket, then send them on their way... with the child not in a car seat.
Oh...My...God...I NEVER said to take the child away if they were not in a car seat. However, if you notice the main point of hot stuff's story was that the seat was not secured. That is my problem. THere are emergency situations where my little brothers had to ride in my car with out a car seat. BUT they were buckled. My issue is with unsecured kids. Car seats do you no good unless they are secured. Even if a kid is crawling around I never suggested them being taken away. I know what it is like to have family stripped of you without any control over the situation. I would NEVER suggest that on anyone.
How many people here actually know the child seat law in their state? Have you looked it up? Here in FL, it's 4 years old and younger need to be in a car seat.
I know mine. Eight and under need to be in an appropriate car seat.
Proportional reasoning and perspective can be applied to many things.
What do you mean by this because I am taking it several different ways and I want to make sure that I address the way you meant it to mean.
Amazing how so many younger people have been brainwashed by over zealous media with their personal agendas. Study the studies by Dr. Bandura, influence strategies, and entertainment education.... Hollywood is very familiar with his work and has manipulated society... this is how they got abortion forced on us.
What? How is agreeing with child seat safety laws and seat belts and requiring children to be secured being brainwashed by over zealous media with PERSONAL agendas?
To think that I'm saying that nothing is wrong with children out of a car seat, is a complete distortion of what has been written... children should be in a car seat, but to treat it like they're killing their kids for not having a car seat is ridiculous, unreasonable, and uncharitable. You have no idea what is going on in those people's lives, having a child taken away over one trip without a car seat is just evil.
I didn't say take the child away. But they need to be pulled over, ticketed and/or fined. I don't know what is going on in these people's lives. But it literally takes 10 seconds to buckle your kids seat. And if your kid unbuckles then you pull over and discipline appropriatly. Make sure the kid KNOWS that they need to be buckled. If you leave a kid in the bath tub and he drowns while you leave the room it is negligance. The person didn't mean to kill the kid. But the kid died. It was irresponsible of the parent to leave the room while the kid was in the bath tub. If a kid dies because he was not secured in a seat belt or a car seat or he was in a car seat and the car seat was not secured, the person didn't mean to kill the kid. However, it is negligance. It was irresponsible for the parent to leave the kid unsecured.
...and a child not in a car seat is not a serious danger... unless the child is crawling all over the car.
It is potentially dangerous for the child. Better safe than sorry...or dead. That's safe, right?
Well, they are secured...but your kids are young. They need to be in a child safety seat.
Jesus_lol
"it used to be done like this and and i am ok" is probably the stupidest argument i have ever heard. Doctors used to recommend smoking, bike helmets werent required, childrens toys were made with lead, parents used to give children mercury to play with, children used to work in factories and as chimney sweeps. last time i checked normally safety stuff is changed for the better!
