So when the gospel was being read, I thought that it was odd that one of the readers who was basically St. Peter, the Sanhedrin, and Judas was a woman. I'm not judging her or Fr. for allowing it. I just thought that it was strange that a man wasn't reading her part instead. Also, the closing song was bizarre. Lord of the Dance? Personally, verses three and four sound especially weird to me.

This thread isn't me trying to be a radically tradie, it just didn't settle right with me.

Practically speaking, sometimes there are not enough male lectors. We broke it up three ways...Reader 1 (the main Lector) Reader 2 (the other one) Reader 3, me.

I do agree that the song could have been better chosen. "Life High the Cross" or something in that vein.

Yeah, both the narrator and the other reader were female today too. Not sure about that closing slong though... We had "Jesus Remember Me When You Come into Your Kingdom".

Oh I like that one - that is always our closing song on Holy Thursday.

I have always hated "Lord of the Dance." It's the dumbest church song I've ever heard in any denomination you care to name.

I despise that song. It takes the beautiful melody from a song called "Simple Gifts," which is an 1848 Shaker song by Elder Joseph Brackett and bastardizes it. The lyrics are iffey too.

We sang that song at our Palm Sunday Mass. It's a very triumphant hymn, I like it a lot.

Yea, the Lord of the Dance is weird in and of itself and it didn't seem particularly fitting for the start of Holy Week.

We did Jesus, Remember Me...and had the deacon being the Narrator and a woman lector doing the others. *shrug* Women read for men in theatre all the time, so it didn't bother me any.

It used to bother me but I figure, she's not hurting anyone. Just as long as she's not playing Jesus. That bothers me.

I suppose.

Not nearly as weird though as in high school when I was in a performance of the stations of the cross with some other high schoolers and middle schoolers and some adults who narrated. During one of the rehersals a man did the narrating part of Our Lady. It sounded really bizarre and fortunately, someone suggested that he narrate for a male character and a woman do that part. I also remember that there were more girls participating in the stations and that one girl had to play two parts at two different stations. For one of them she was Pilate and then quickly changed so that she could be Our Lady! Wow, the contrast.

I didn't even watch it.

Just had never heard the Lord of the Dance song, so this is what I automatically think of.
