I myself didn't want to vote for the "forced/compelled" option because that's not been at all what I've been saying, but I voted for it anyway just because I know that's the option made for my position.

I just don't see the point of posting a picture like that when it does not reflect the Churches teaching on the topic. And what is your definition of radical extremist view on head coverings? And btw I did not say that you didn't support women covering their heads, so stop reading stuff into my posts.

Everyone during the winter months stays bundled up in our Church, which should tell you something about our heat...

You come into a poll topic I started, hijack it, and bring up “frustrations” (your words) from another topic I let go... I personally find it as personal attacks on me, this is a fair topic and you shouldn’t have to feel like you need to dominate it. If you are saying it is a waste of time for me to feel welcome and safe here?

But by suggesting that I oppose head coverings for women, calling it outdated and oppressive is hurtful and inappropriate. That is how I feel. Now please get to the topic.

HisChildForever Posted April 17, 2009 Posted April 17, 2009 (edited) I know feminism has not been brought into this discussion and I am certainly NOT saying that head coverings are oppressive in [b]any way[/b] (I need to make this absolutely CLEAR); but the picture in the OP made me think of this: I feel that many women who [i]do[/i] examine head coverings from a [i]feminist[/i] standpoint see it as oppressive because other religions and cultures - such as Islam - which view women as "beneath" men (dare I refer you all to those Afghan "laws," the thread is floating around somewhere) also stress head coverings or complete coverings. This is why many women get confused when it comes to Catholicism and head coverings because, when uneducated about the topic, they automatically connect it with other religions that clearly stress head coverings for different reasons. The Church's view on women is very unique because it elevates us to be precious creatures that are to be protected by men!
