I think it was more than a few centuries back. There were a couple popes who who ......less than decent. However that is another thread. Not sure your point in bringing this up.

This is hardly a big problem though in perspective. Think of how many priests who do remain faithful to their vows. You hear all this media on a few bad cases and what is ignored is the priests, sisters, and brothers who do remain faithful to their vows.
I just thought I’d mention it because we in the Church, have been inundated with reports of sexual relations occurring between priests and boys, that we’ve kind of overlooked the reality that there are probably as much, if not more priests having relations with women- in particular when they look like Fr Cutie.

As for the Pope who had children, I was just reminding people that if a Pope of all people, can fall, then so can a priest.

Ya it's wrong and breaking their vow but they should get to go to confession like everybody else and it should be over with. In my opinon. :))
True, they can be redeemed but when it is a big public story like this it makes it difficult to go through since so many people will remember what you have done for a long time and the effects of scandal have been done. Redemption can still happen but its not something just gets over with easily. It reminds me of The Scarlet Letter actually. He definitely needs praying for. I can't imagine how hard this must be on him andc his loved ones.

I was thinking the same thing. I don't like it when a priest is referred to as "hot." There's a young priest at the parish that I attend while away at my current college that some have commented on his good looks but those comments died down a long time ago.

You can find someone goodlooking without lusting after them can't you ?

True, but usually when the word "hot" is used that does not have to do with their temperature it means that they are sensuously appealing. I just don't like the terms "hot," "hottie," or saying that you feel hot for someone or that you have the hots for someone. They sound lustful. Why not just say handsome, gorgeous, pretty, or beautiful? Those sound like much more respectful adjectives.

What is also sad is how much unfaithfulness, cheating, stealing, crime and violence take up so much of our attention in the media...especially when a good guy goes down...

there seems to be zero interests in stories about the countless priests who are faithful to their vows and to God...

I totally agree with you CatherineM. It just seems inappropriate and sort of irreverant to call a priest "hot."

Anyone "checking out" a priest gets a question mark in my book.

Okay guys- point taken!

Fr Cutie is not hot.

He is very... "aesthetically pleasing".... ;)

Handsome is as handsome does. Lets kindly STOP referring to anyone as "hotties" as Lust is STILL a mortal sin. His soul is far more important than his shape, and his soul can certainly use our prayers.
Ok, this thing with the child molesters... you must remember many times that good bishops for the longest time were told by reputable certified shrinks that these people simply "needed a new start, were cured, it wouldn't happen again, it was due to stress- releive the stress on they would be ok" etc. and to move them to a new parish. Some of it was intentionally criminal - but much of it was not.
Oh my. Are you saying that ordained bishop, men supposedly chosen by god, successors of the 12 apostles, moral and spiritual leaders and experts and advises on the formation of the conscience couldn't differentiate between right and wrong because of what some shrink said? It doesn't say much for the credibility of the church when you try to defend the behaviour of these pervert harbouring satanists by deferring blame to those outside of it (which is a natural thing to do). I think I almost puked when you referred to them as "good bishops", lol. Sorry for the loaded language.

Priests aren't doctors. They therefore take the advice of experts when it comes to something they aren't schooled in. My husband gets called when a priest in this diocese is dealing with someone with schizophrenia or their family because that is his expertise.

Since when are satanists pedophiles or visa versa? Do you know something the rest of us don't? Perhaps you're a member here scouting?

Don't worry about puking to posts. I puke about yours pretty much every time. I'm just surprised you didn't stay under your rock.

What???

The bishops, clearly at an absolute loss regarding the situation (priests - HOLY men called by God to serve God and community in a most complete way - molesting small children) decided to consult psychologists who are PROFESSIONALS when it comes to the mind. The bishops, in good faith, trusted these mental health care professionals. Perhaps a lot of the bishops, not being able to fathom the crimes these holy men performed, realized that the only way it was possible for these priests to commit such atrocities was if they truly were so stressed out that they were not in the right frame of mind. Was this wrong? Clearly yes. But the bishops who took the professionals in good faith and were unaware of the extent of pedophilia (not aware that it is NOT a "one time thing") simply moved the priest(s) to another parish, trusting that this was the solution.

NO ONE HERE is defending what those bishops did but rather EXPLAINING why some of the bishops did it. NOT ALL of the bishops were criminal.

Fr Cutie could be in more trouble than we think.

I’ve just read on the Miami Herald that the 35 year old mother that Fr Cutie has been seeing is divorced. There was no mention of the woman having received an annulment, so Fr Cutie could have caused this woman to have committed adultery...

Mind you, The Miami Herald has alleged he has said some things which don't sound like him such as:

''I would like to have a family and at the same time serve God,'' Cutié said. `` I have friends -- Episcopalian bishops, Baptists, friends in the American Bible Society -- and they have shown me that it is possible to do both.''

When did he come to this decision?...

This behavior isn't something of his that happened over night. He has confirmed that he has struggled with this ever since he entered the seminary. He admits that this is the first woman he's ever had "sexual contact" with. But he has struggled with the idea of celibacy from the very beginning. I continue to question why any of his superiors would allow him to stay and finish his formation?

It's sad when a person does something wrong, but even more of a tragedy when they continue to justify what they are doing. What does an Episcopalian Bishop, baptists, etc have to do with his ordination and his vows?

Desperation to keep up the numbers of ordained priest?...

This is just it. On the CBS show, he made no mention of wanting to have children and serve God at the same time. He pretty much sat on the fence on whether he’d continue as a priest or marry his girlfriend, so I query whether that quote from the Miami Herald is genuine.

To be honest, from what he has said on TV, it seems that the only people making excuses for him are his fans in his local parish along with those who want "change" in the Church. These are people who think nothing of the fact that he broke a vow.

That's why he was so adamant on CBS saying that he didn't want to be the anti-celibacy "poster-boy." And he was sad he was becoming that...
