Vincent Vega
and what's the deal with mentioning the commies she was killed with???
Probably to connect our martyrs with the "martyrs" of the artist's religion. picchick
Bad art in churches and Eucharistic abuse are connected. I'm not suggesting any more outrage over this heinous image than any other ugly church. It is one more reminder of a need for a strong call for authentic renewal in the Church.
Eucharistic Abuse, although connected, is higher. I am not saying that it belongs there or that it is beautiful. I am saying that I will save my outrage for atrocities against God greater than a piece of metal shapen in an ugly form. saintwannabe 777
I hate how the site is taking shots at JPII for having made the rector blessed. Edited June 2, 2009 by saintwannabe

Zuhlsdorf, is taking a swipe at John Paul II, nor is the article that is posted on the site doing that; instead, the article is simply stating that John Paul II is the one who beatified Sr. Restituta Kafka. Moosey
There's a book called "Ugly as Sin." It's about horribly constructed churches. rose wrought of iron
That is hideous. I really think my two year old sister can make something better and more reverent from play-dough.
CatherineM
Re the discussion of Eucharistic Abuse and Architectural Abuse, I was thinking about a show on kids I saw. This child development specialist was showing his kids' rooms, and they were filled with expensive breakables, and his kids were grade school age. When asked if he worried about them breaking things, he said no. He had raised them around nice things, and they had learned to be respectful of them. They didn't have plastic plates and sippy cups, they had always eaten off fine china and drank out of lead crystal. My point is that when I enter a modern church that you can barely tell is Catholic, I notice that I am louder, more likely to just flop down and get comfortable. When I have entered ornate, ancient Colonial era churches in Mexico, or St. Pat's in NYC, I notice that I immediately become more quiet and reverent. I know that shouldn't make a difference, but it does. When we get "comfortable" is when I have seen Eucharistic abuse creep in. When our surroundings are majestic, I just think we are automatically more respectful.
Marie-Therese
Were I a parishoner of that diocese, I would tell the Bishop, with all respect, that I would not give one thin dime in temporal support to that diocese until that abomination had been removed from the House of God. There is art which is subjectively appreciated, and then there are blatant swipes at God. Would citizens of the United States sit and allow a memorial on Ground Zero to include the names of the hijackers? NO!!! The more complacent we are, the more souls are dragged to Hell. That is just the way it is. Only Satan could be behind something so perverse as to allow an atheist Communist sympathizer to commemorate a martyr of the Church. The only way this could be more offensive is if he carved a swastika on it.
KnightofChrist
It looks pornographic, as well as satanic.
