It looks pornographic, as well as satanic.
I also thought it seemed a bit revealing for church.

I guess I am alone on this one.

I guess it is because I don't care. I like my icons but they are not God Himself. That is why I become more outraged at abuses against the Eucharist. The Eucharist is God Himself. I understand that icons and artwork is the extension of the faith. However, I just don't look at it if it is as ugly as that. I am not going to waste my time and energy being angry at something like that. I have other things that I can spend my anger on.

Well for those that do care there are legitimate, rational, justifiable reasons to care. Holy Icons are not God Himself but are meant to be venerated and reverenced.

Looks like the reference he used for that sculpture was a photo of her when she was dead.

Also, what's up with that horrible music? LOL

No one said that icons are God Himself, but they do contain divine energy and so they are a manifestation of His living presence in the Church. True icons are mysteries that convey grace to man, while the image placed in the Vienna cathedral is utterly disgusting and inappropriate within that sacred space.

Abuse in worship of any kind is a terrible thing; for one must never bring "strange fire" into the Temple of the Lord (cf. Numbers 26:61).

If the veneration of icons was not a dogmatic issue I would agree with you, but the Church has declared the use of icons in worship as a dogma of divine faith, and so a Christian should be offended by the monstrosity that has been placed in the chapel of the Vienna cathedral.

If I can analogise a bit, does that mean that you wouldn't be very put out at the desecration of your flag?

Theologian in Training

Just goes to show why paintings, icons and statues done prayerfully are so beautiful, because they, indeed, are borne out of prayer.

like the Cathedral of Chartes. I believe the architects and builders took a personal vow that they could only work on the (then) project of the then Cathedral while in the state of sanctifying grace.

First that video of Schonborn celebrating a Mass with strobe lights and balloons, now this...

Hmm.

I do think that statue is in bad taste, though I also think there is little I can do about it. I mean...I've never been to Austria.

So, while we can all be indignant...what can we actually do about this?
