VeniteAdoremus Posted July 2, 2009 Posted July 2, 2009 Ehm... aren't we forbidden to bring weapons into church? When a Catholic scouts group visits there's a whole row of pocket knives next to the entrance.

Here goes... When you spot a grammar error, punctuation error, spelling error, Latin error, or an error that you might consider laziness or sloppiness of thought or speech of another member... or even ignorance on the part of another member... One you feel you just MUST correct.... this is what you should do..... RESIST that urge to correct. That's right... just resist. You can do it. And... then... OFFER IT UP!!! * *HSMom posting as just a member.... not a mod.

Even so, I usually don't keep a knife on me unless I'm out in the woods. Then, I guess they just consider their church (building, not congregation Rex ) just as a house of worship, where we consider our churches to be an actual dwelling place of God.
Norseman82 Posted July 2, 2009 Posted July 2, 2009 What about blessing guns in St. Gabriel Possenti day celebrations?
cmotherofpirl Posted July 2, 2009 Posted July 2, 2009
True enough here as well depending on the county, but wearing handguns into the building openly?
Some people are actually required to carry weapons at all times, but they are usually somewhat concealed.
OraProMe Posted July 2, 2009 Posted July 2, 2009 Res, stop being so petty. It's a secular news source and you can't expect everyone to write "ecclesial community". Don't worry, I'm sure no one here is implying that protestant congregations are valid Churches

BG45 Posted July 2, 2009 Author Posted July 2, 2009
I don't think I have an enormous problem with it. A celebration of freedoms that you guys enjoy, right? Politically motivated.... maybe, but then again, aren't a large amount of the sourthern Protestant communities pretty politically focussed? Just how their 'worship' works.
Some are politically focused, some aren't. I live in the South and the only political stance I've heard from a religious leader was a friend's priest in 2004 stating you weren't a Christian if you voted for anyone but George W. Bush. It depends on the region and the attitudes of the people mainly. It very well could be more of a celebration of freedom than a political statement, but...and this is just my personal opinion; unless someone must carry a concealed weapon at all times as part of their job duties, I'd feel uncomfortable at firearms being present in worship. Partially due to how I was raised, to keep God separate from worldly things, and partially due to the hearkening back to the "sanctuary" of the Middle Ages, where a place of worship could house a person in trouble, where none could bring weapons.
Niccolò Posted July 2, 2009 Posted July 2, 2009 (edited) If I were able to conceal carry legally here in CA, I wouldn't think twice about bringing it into church with me. I see nothing wrong with bringing guns into a church. Also, I'm probably going to have my priest bless some of my rifles in the near future. He liked the idea. Edited July 2, 2009 by Niccolò

We Canadians don't have those rights that you do, so I don't often think particularly hard about carrying firearms.

Unless your government has a big anti-knife campaign that suggests rounding blades to stop them from being as lethal. Glad to have the rights that I do though!
Nihil Obstat Posted July 3, 2009 Posted July 3, 2009 That's true. We've still got our knives. That's something even the Liberals couldn't do away with. We've got so much wilderness.....

People used to wear swords into churches openly, I suspect that in the oldwest everyone did not leave there guns at home to attend churc., We are way to hung up on guns now days.
